Welcome to my classroom! I am excited to be a Coosa Eagle and to spend the year with you in biology. My name is Mrs. Birdsong and this is my 10th year teaching secondary sciences. My bachelors degree is in Marine Biology so I do have a love for marine life, especially sea turtles! My favorite college course was Conservation of Marine Sea Turtles where I was able to go around the coast of Florida and help conservation agencies and nesting sea turtles. After college, I went to intern at a Mote Marine Laboratory where I was in the Dolphin and Whale Hospital and Sea Turtle Rehabilitation Center. There, I was able to provide husbandry care for turtles while they were waiting to gain enough strength to be released back into the wild. I was also able to participate in surgeries as an assistant. I then decided to go back and obtain my masters in biology education so that I could become a teacher and hopefully share my love of science and the environment with my students and make a difference.
I love to travel with my husband and we have visited several countries including Italy, France, Greece, Turkey, Spain, Germany, Switzerland and Great Britain to name a few. We also enjoy traveling to new places in the U.S. My favorite so far has been Alaska. Now that we have two kids, Disney is a family favorite and we go at least once a year.
