Welcome to Floyd County Schools' College and Career Academy School of Medicine. Our Healthcare Science team consists of three educators: Niki Henderson, Registered Dental Hygienist; Kristin Pizano, Licensed Practical Nurse; and Ann Rickman, Registered Respiratory Therapist. All three teachers are licensed healthcare providers and also hold degrees in education.
It takes three (3) semesters to complete a Healthcare Career Pathway and obtain the Career Ready seal on the graduation diploma. Students will have many options here at the CCA regarding his/her pathway. The various pathways offered are listed in detail in the course syllabus.
It is our hope that students will approach their study of healthcare science seriously and enthusiastically so that they can experience a successful transition from our school to post-secondary educational programs in health-related fields and/or the healthcare workforce!

About Me.............
Ann Rickman
I received a Bachelor of Science degree in Respiratory Therapy from the Medical College of Georgia, now known as Augusta State University, in 1992. After graduation, I worked in various respiratory positions from 1992-2001 at Floyd Medical Center. In 2001, I joined the Specialty Hospital, known as Kindred Hospital and was located on the Floyd Medical Center's campus, but now closed. In 2009, I accepted a position at the College and Career Academy as a healthcare science teacher. I wanted to share my knowledge and experience with young adults to help them become better prepared for the transition from high school to the healthcare workforce or post-secondary education.
My husband and I have been married for 29 years. Jeff is a teacher and coach at Pepperell High School. He has been at PHS since 2000. We have two grown children, a daughter and a son.
What is Healthcare Science............
Healthcare Science Technology Education programs are designed to provide students the opportunity to explore careers in healthcare. This course of study will provide students with a smooth transition into post-secondary nursing, medical or allied health education or the ability to acquire an entry level medical position in the workforce or the military. Students are exposed to general healthcare knowledge and skills and are then encouraged to pursue a more in depth study in the career area they are interested in through the appropriate career pathway.
