Florence ISD Parents and Community,
I hope that all of you are safe and doing well.
We have been told for the past several weeks that health and safety guidelines would be forthcoming from the TEA regarding the reopening of schools. The release of this information has once again been delayed. Commissioner of Education Mike Morath provided some information with regard to remote learning formats but did not disclose any information on the reopening of schools for face to face instruction. You may be aware through news media that a draft document with this guidance was posted on the TEA website and was quickly taken down. This document was apparently intended for internal use only. I can only speculate that recent spikes in the number of cases of COVID–19 may be causing the TEA and the Governor’s Office to rethink and rework guidance documents. The Commissioner continues to indicate that information will be coming soon.
As I indicated previously, my team and I will continue to monitor the situation and will continue working on contingency plans. We must be prepared to provide face to face instruction if and when we are allowed to do so. At the same time, we will prepare to provide some or all instruction using remote learning formats. Within the next couple of weeks, we will survey parents seeking information that will assist us in the planning process. Meeting the specific needs of our students and this community remains our highest priority.
I continue to be impressed with the resilience and the resolve of our parents, students, teachers, staff, and the community as a whole during these very difficult times. Be assured that we will continue to work tirelessly in service to the students and parents of Florence ISD.
Sincerely,
Paul Michalewicz
Message from the Superintendent
Dear Florence ISD Community,
I hope that you and your family are safe and healthy. I am extremely thankful for the incredible people in our community who have gone above and beyond to ensure that we meet the needs of our students during the COVID-19 Pandemic. These people include parents, teachers, food service workers, essential support staff, administrators, the Board of Trustees, city and county officials, and other community leaders. I am grateful for your continued support and patience as we plan for the eventual reopening of our schools. While restrictions due to COVID-19 remain, we operate under guidelines which are currently in place. Some guidelines have remained the same while others have changed quickly. On all school related topics, my staff and I remain engaged and informed by the latest information at hand. While we do not yet have specific guidance from the Texas Education Agency on the reopening of schools, we are at work preparing contingency plans. When we receive this guidance from the TEA on the reopening of our schools, we will then be able to build and communicate a plan that best suits the needs of our students and community. Again, I thank you for your support and patience.
Sincerely,
Paul Michalewicz

Governor Greg Abbott announced today, April 17, 2020, an executive order that schools remain closed in the state of Texas for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year. Florence ISD will comply with Governor Abbott’s executive order, and although our buildings will remain closed, our students will continue to receive instruction and assignments through remote learning. Through it all, our teachers and support staff remain committed to providing continuous learning opportunities, support, and services to our students.

Florence ISD - COVID-19 Update (3/30/2020)
Florence ISD administrators and teachers are working this week to get all parents and students connected with their child’s teachers as quickly as possible. The following items are of utmost importance as we prepare for this new learning environment.
Teachers are reaching out to parents and students through various means such as phone calls and email. Phone calls may appear as: no caller ID, blocked, private, or restricted as teachers will be using a secure Google phone service to communicate with you. We realize that there are a few parents we have not been able to connect with at this time, and this could be because we do not have your updated contact information. Please reach out to your child’s teacher or administrator via email or by phone at the respective campus if you have not received communication. Access to email will be a more direct way to connect with your child’s teacher and administrator.
Interim educational lessons and resources are available on the Florence ISD website located under the COVID-19 section. Please access these interim lessons and resources so that your student can be engaged in learning activities.
