Mr. Donovan's connection to the arts runs deep - and it started at home. His parents met doing community theater and the arts are still a very important part of their lives. Mr. Donovan essentially grew up in the theater, was exposed to it constantly, and soaked it all up. Behind the scenes or in front of an audience, he knew from an early age that his life would be dedicated to the arts.
Mr. Donovan earned a B.F.A. in Theatre with an acting concentration from Montclair State University, and went on to enjoy a career in performance ever since in theatre, film, television and radio. Perhaps best known for his role as Sheriff Ramsey on HBO’s Boardwalk Empire, Mr. Donovan has also been featured in such shows as Godfather of Harlem, The Young and the Restless, Zero Hour, and All My Children. He appeared alongside Nicolas Cage and Elijah Wood in the feature film The Trust. On stage, Mr. Donovan recently concluded a 4-year run playing the role of Sam Phillips in the Las Vegas production of Million Dollar Quartet, and has treaded the boards at celebrated theatres such as the Walnut Street Theatre, People's Light, Ogunquit Playhouse, Forestburgh Playhouse, West Virginia Public Theater, Cider Mill Playhouse, 12 Miles West Theatre Company, The Theater Project and Luna Stage. Mr. Donovan has also appeared in and/or lent his voice to over 40 television and radio commercials.
Mr. Donovan feels extremely lucky to have found a home in Florence Township, and believes his unique blend of theater arts education and practical professional experience in the performing arts has and will continue to serve the students of FTSD well. Mr. Donovan is honored to be entrusted with helping guide the next generation of theatre-lovers in this vibrant community on a path to building confidence, courage, kindness and respect, and becoming well-rounded citizens of the world.
Mr. Donovan is also the loving husband of a fellow educator, and proud papa of two beautiful and spirited young children.
