Wattstax Conclusion

Wattstax, a music festival held in 1972, was a crucial part of Los Angeles that unified the Black community. The music festival provided a way to reflect on the Watts Renaissance and see how life could get better. Seven years prior to the concert, the Watts uprising occurred. During this time of chaos, African American citizens of Watts revolted against local law enforcement due to harsh racism. However, after the riots, Wattstax brought the African American community together and reminded them to always love themselves regardless of color. Campaigns like the Civil Rights and Black Power Movements were emphasized on this special day. Wattstax was the concert of the century and even over 50 years later, the impact it had against discrimination and cruelty will continue to be remembered.
