Seniors will choose from two PROJECT OPTIONS MENU below for their senior project.
The month of May is set aside for senior projects, so seniors usually do not attend classes, with the exception of AP classes. This year's last day for seniors is May 2 (Seniors continue in classes required for graduation if they don't have a passing grade).
Students are expected to attend all AP classes and take AP exams as scheduled, as well as to fulfill athletic team requirements.
Projects may NOT replicate a classroom assignment.
Projects are encouraged to be completed in the Washington Metropolitan area.
If you are traveling during your senior project time and the project that you would like to do can ONLY be done with this travel (and could not be done locally) we will consider it as part of the review process. We do not allow spring break to count toward senior projects in this situation.
Projects should total at least 50 hours of a time commitment.
Service hour requirements must be completed prior to the start of your senior project. However; if choosing a Service Project, these hours may count towards the 50-hour requirement.
Each student must have a faculty mentor.
The mentor meets with and assists the student before and during the project period to ensure that the project is in compliance with the guidelines and that deadlines are met.
Each student must submit a senior project journal throughout the project with reflections.
Seniors are expected to check their email regularly and are responsible for the content and/or replying to their Team Leader in a timely fashion.
An oral presentation is due at the end of the project. The presentation will be in front of a Senior Project Team Committee. The Team Leader will determine the date of the oral presentation.
Projects are graded on a pass/fail basis. If a project is so noncompliant with the guidelines that it is deemed a failure, the student must rectify the situation before receiving a diploma. If a project does not pass, the student must bring the project up to passing standards before receiving a diploma. Students will present the morning after Prom.
Presentations will take place between Reading Day and the week of commencement as determined by their Team Leader and the Senior's completion of hours. These days are part of the scheduled school year and students should make sure they are available to present during this time.
