About me
I have worked for the Forest Lake School District since 2001. Previously I have been a counselor at Southwest Junior High School, the Forest Lake Middle School, and as a dean of students at the high school. I am beyond proud to be part of the Scandia Elementary community. A school counselor's role is first and foremost to be an advocate for your child. I am solution-focused and provide opportunities for children to learn from mistakes, take responsibility when needed, be good humans towards others and can provide emotional support for students when needed. I sometimes can offer groups for students involved with changing family situations, friendship groups, or grief depending on the need and my availabilty. I can also meet with students who might be struggling with regular attendance, school performance, anxiety, or self-esteem. Reach out and let's talk on how I might be able to support your child's needs! I am here to help.
Mr. G. is also certified in Law and Ethics and Bullying Prevention through the American School Counselor Association.
The Forest Lake School District has partnered with a handful of mental health agencies in the area to provide in school mental health services for students. The convenience of meeting with students during the school hours has helped families that might have difficulty scheduling sessions outside of school. Currently, Lakes Center for Youth and Families provides one therapist that meets with students at Scandia. Generally speaking, there is a waiting list for most mental health agencies so my advice is to call and get on the waiting list if you feel this option might benefit your child. Lakes Center for Youth and Families number is 651-464-3685 ext. #2. Reach out to me directly for more information or for help in your search for mental health support.
