Forest Lake Elementary's
Arts and Academics Information 2023
Each year participants receive a student created A&A button. This year's button design contest runs from Feb. 17-March 23.
What is A&A?
Arts and Academics Expo is a non-competitive event where FLE students have the opportunity to show off their talents, expertise and interests. Arts and Academics Expo is designed to encourage students to share their talents in the arts and to be recognized for their academic achievements in a variety of categories. Depending on the category, students will either submit their finished products or video of a presentation/performance. Scroll down to see the categories for participation.
We are planning to have an in-person event this year on Thursday, April 20 from 6-8pm.
Arts and Academic Submissions
Forest Lake Elementary students may submit class work or independent work from the current school year. We would like each student to enter 1-3 events.
Submissions will qualify students for entry in a prize drawing for gift certificates.
Arts and Academic Categories
Research Projects
This event involves submitting a written report or display on a subject of the student's choice. Writing should show evidence of having gone through the prewriting, writing and editing process. Submitted pieces may be any length, but must be written in the student's own words, not copied from a book. Sources/bibliography must be included.
Computer Projects
This event includes student generated computer/media presentations that showcase applications such as: online coding, video editing, stop motion videos, Google slides/PowerPoint, Google docs/word processing, Google sheets/spreadsheet, draw programs, or electronic portfolios. Student presentations may include the academic content of the student's choice.

This event includes all vocal music entries. The choice of selection must be appropriate for an elementary-age child. No lip-syncing. If using a recording, the artist’s voice may not be on the recording. You may find audio tracks without the artist’s voice online. These are sometimes called Karaoke tracks. The student must be available for a live performance the night of April 20.

This event involves selection, memorizing and presenting a dramatic cutting of student’s own choosing. Pieces may be serious or humorous, and "borrowed" or original. Students may write their own original script as well. Costumes and props may be used. The skit should not exceed five minutes in length. The student must be available for a live performance the night of April 20.

This event is for those students who are currently practicing a martial art under the supervision of a certified black belt instructor. Students should be prepared to give a brief overview of the martial art they study and to perform a pattern/form that they have earned or certified. The student must be available for a live performance the night of April 20. The presentation should be no longer than 5 minutes. Audition required
