Welcome to the FLANC Fall Conference, as we celebrate an incredible 60 years of FLANC’s legacy of service, collaboration, and support for language educators across North Carolina!
This year’s theme, “Languages as Our Light, Culture as Our Compass,” invites us to reflect on the powerful role we play as language educators—as lighthouses who illuminate new possibilities for our students and as guides who help them navigate an increasingly interconnected and culturally diverse world.
We are thrilled to celebrate this special milestone with you!

FLANC at 60—and the best is yet to come!
We are honored to welcome Dr. Bobby Hobgood as our keynote speaker for this very special 60th Anniversary Conference.
Dr. Hobgood has dedicated his career to advancing language education, supporting educators, and exploring the meaningful connections between language learning, technology, student success, and diversity. As the Director of the Language Resource Center in the Department of Languages, Cultures and Translation at UNC Charlotte, he has contributed extensively to the field through his work in technology-enhanced language learning, dialogic feedback, and innovative approaches to student learning.
His contributions to language education have been recognized through honors including the 2023 ACTFL/Cengage/IALLT Postsecondary Award, the 2020 Laura Thomas Award, and the 2017 SCOLT Educator of Excellence Award. He is also the author of How to Study a World Language.
