Throughout the month, we collaborated with FLAME University's Film Society to screen films that have caste-based issues and themes.
We featured four films: Mari Selvaraj's "Pariyerum Perumal", Chaitanya Tamhane's "Court", Anand Patwardhan's documentary "Jai Bhim Comrade" and Nagraj Manjule's "Fandry".
These films highlight existing social disparities and harsh caste realities vividly while also encouraging the viewers to question societal norms and fight against injustice.
The Sociolympics was a game night which featured games like “Pin the Beard,” “Pop the Balloon,” and "Everything Sociology".
We aimed to promote sociological insights in a fun, engaging way. Our audience was quite diverse as everyone, from the students (of sociology as well as non-sociology backgrounds) to the security personnel at FLAME participated and enjoyed our game night.
The Sociology Club turned pink for a cozy and lively screening of the Barbie movie! Attendees enjoyed cupcakes, free stickers, and a fun selfie booth, soaking in the film's playful yet thought-provoking essence. The event also featured insightful discussions exploring whether Barbie portrays feminism and what its message truly conveys.
Wrapping up the evening, a spirited Kahoot quiz kept the energy high, with exciting prizes for the top three leaderboard stars. A perfect blend of fun, food, and feminist debate!
The new year was welcomed with the fun New Year Carnival, wherein the Sociology Club collaborated with the MANN Club.
The stall hosted two fun and engaging activities, namely the ‘Bollywood Trivia’ and ‘How Chronically Online are you?’. The participants were given a choice between the two activities. If the participants answer three or more questions correctly, they are rewarded with free sociology-themed stickers and chocolates.
The Bollywood Trivia employed the use of questions in the form of chits related to the Bollywood cinema as the name suggested. The activity ‘How chronically online are you?’ used the memes and trends popular online as questions. In this activity, the participant picked a random chit with a meme, and they were supposed to act out the meme.

The Sociology Club organized a guest lecture in honour of the Women’s Day celebration. The guest lecture was delivered by Dr. Katyayani Dalmia on the topic of skin colour and how we as individuals experience self through skin colour.
We explored the bias of skin colour in the world and shared first-hand experiences to understand the subject better. We also observed the intersection of caste within the subject matter. The lecture was super interactive and engaging, with key takeaways. The lecture was followed by a brief discussion and anecdotal stories by the participants.
