Using a Spanish dictionary to look up a word or two can be a great way to expand your vocabulary. However, translating an entire sentence or paragraph, word for word, can lead to many grammatical errors in your responses. You see, sentences and expressions do not always translate directly from one language to another very well. That's because translation software, like Google Translate, doesn't take into consideration the Spanish grammar rules that you are learning when it's constructing a sentence. It doesn't take into account the fact that word order changes from English to Spanish. It may not even use the correct words to clearly and accurately express what you're trying to say.
We do not expect you to speak Spanish at the same level that you speak English. It took you some time and consistent practice to master English. It will also take you some time to be able to fully express yourself in Spanish. Instead of "The ginormous dog trampled through the field the field of roses." You would say "I saw a garden. The dog went to the garden. The dog was big. The dog ran."
