Teaching is a passion I never knew I had. Appointed as a tutor in 1998 opened up opportunities for learning how to teach and what to teach. Each course was both a challenge as well as opportunity in learning and brushing up the teaching skills. As the years went by, the students I met are getting more challenging to deal with. Educating in higher education is not about getting to the lecture hall and lecture, it is more like providing advance knowledge of the working environment. Educating students in the year of 2016 is not as same as students in the year of 2022. Methods of delivering and providing interest to the course are different. Being a researcher is a bonus for every lecturer in higher education.
Teaching university students is a challenge when it comes to gain the attention of the students. The technology nowadays is growing fast and teaching in a classroom can be bored if the conventional ways of teaching are still implemented. There so many ways in putting some innovation in teaching this generation. I usually encourage peer teaching my class. Includes real problem scenarios for the students to think and solve using the syllabus given. Students enjoy using thinking tools such as mind maps and sketches that to bring the learning more interactive. Gamification in learning is also included to enhance the learning in class. Classes that I had include innovation in teaching are as follows:
Coding of Multimedia Signals, SKET4633
Network Programming, SKET4623
Professional Engineering Practices, SKEE4012

Covid 19 pandemic had made lecturers to move to online mode. My online experience started with MKET1393 Network Modelling and Performance, it is a post graduate course. This course introduces the students to the techniques in network modeling and discrete event simulation. It involved mathematical queuing analysis in telecommunication system using Markov Chain. I was forced to use videos teach the mathematical exercises. Synchronous and asynchronous learning was also use. Google classroom was very handy.
