IMPACT GUIDELINES

1. Uphold the IMPACT/ PAL philosophy of Sonora High School and strive to better the student body experience.

2. Your position in IMPACT/ PAL is an honor. If you fail to meet the expectations of those who put you in that role, you will be asked to resign. Always be a role model for the student body.

3. Be a courteous and open-minded listener.

4. Treat yourself and others as equal. No one in Leadership is more important or higher rank than another. Be respectful at all times of each other’s ideas and work ethic.

5. Speak your mind, but keep it tactful and respectful. The greatest avenue to the best ideas is communication and debate. Offer comments, suggestions and ideas constantly. Respect each other’s opinion even if you don’t agree. Acknowledge their point of view so that they feel heard.

6. Attendance is IMPORTANT! This includes school day activities and after hours activities. This is a program/group that cannot succeed unless members are present and ready to work. The less you work the harder everyone else works. You are evaluated on participation. Absence due to other commitments is not an excuse for late or forgotten work.

7. Don’t be tardy. You must be present during attendance. Don’t just leave for the restroom or another class assuming we know where you are. This also means don’t be tardy to other classes using IMPACT/ PAL Leadership as an excuse for your lateness.

8. Use your time in trainings efficiently. IMPACT/ PAL tutorial is not time for homework or talking with friends who sit outside of room 368 or GYM. Use this time to complete your trainings and to help others complete theirs. Don’t procrastinate. If you do, your connections will often suffer a loss of quality or fail to be meaningful.

9. Never accept the bare minimum in any of your work, or that of your peers. Always strive to do better than it has ever been done before.

11. Get involved in every aspect of Leadership and IMPACT/ PAL. Enjoy your classmates and fellow leaders. Learn people's’ names and say hello. Take part in activities and encourage others to do the same. The more you get involved the more you get out of this program.

12. Laughter is the best medicine. Be willing to make mistakes and laugh at yourself. We often learn more from our mistakes than from our successes.

13. Always go to the student body for information. Don’t make assumptions about their opinions or make decisions based off of your own (or friends) beliefs. Remember you are in this program to serve them.

14. Everyone you meet in life has some type of special skill or ability. Your job as a leader is to get people to use their skills for the good of the student body. Never criticize people for the skills they fail to have. Instead capitalize on the skills they do have.

15. I, the IMPACT/ PAL Advisor, reserve the right to hold oral evaluations in order to make a sound decision for assessing training work with you and your peers.

16. As an IMPACT/ PAL member, you are expected to wear IMPACT/ PAL clothes on connection days and any other school related activities. This promotes school spirit and your dedication to the program you applied to.

17. As an IMPACT/ PAL member, you are expected maintain a good GPA and not be in Tutorial. Additionally, you are expected to be in class on time. Placement in Tutorial will place you in probation one (1) time. A 2nd placement in Tutorial in the school year will be an automatic removal of the program.
