Duties For All Volunteers:
Report medical issues immediately via radio with your volunteer location or the nearest one to you.
Make sure athletes remain in the marked course boundaries. Have them go back to the correct path if they step out of the course boundary. If there are issues, please report them to Coach Batchelor.
Make sure pedestrians, park guests, and coaches remain off the course while athletes are actively racing.
Periodically check to make sure the nearby course markings are still in place. If anything looks different, please radio for Coach or Shelly and we will correct it.
If any athletes or adults are running next to racing athletes, tell them to stop. If they do not, please report the team name and location of the incident via radio. Pacing athletes results in a DQ, per CIF rules.
Location 1: Athletes will pass you once in their final mile. Make sure athletes are following the clearly marked course and not going around the boundaries. If an athlete steps outside of the boundary, direct them to return to the course.
Location 2: Athletes will pass you once in their second mile. Take the stairs near the finish line up to the bench. Make sure athletes are moving in the correct direction and following the course boundary.
Location 3: Athletes will pass you four times in each mile. You will need to stay alert in this location and move caution tape in each race so athletes can follow the correct course. Athletes will pass you twice in the first mile and then you will move the tape to direct athletes up the hill. Tie the tape to the fence or hold the end of it. Athletes will then pass you for the last time as they go into the final ½ mile. Then you will move the tape back to the starting position for the next race. Radio Coach or Shelly if you have questions.
Location 4: Athletes will pass you three times, twice in mile 1 and once in mile 3. Make sure athletes are following the course boundaries. As they come down the hill, you will need to make sure the athletes are not cutting their left turn onto the pavement. Coaches usually congregate in this location. Make sure pedestrians and spectators are not on the course while athletes are actively racing.
Location 5: Athletes will pass you three times, once in each mile. Make sure athletes are following the course. There are a lot of curves in this location and it may be tempting for them to cut the corners. If an athlete steps outside of the boundary, direct them to return to the course. If a cone marking a corner falls, please pick it up so athletes can follow the course. Make sure pedestrians and spectators are not on the course while athletes are actively racing.
Location 6: Athletes will pass you three times, once in each mile. During mile 1, athletes will turn left at the corner to run around the edge of the field. Watch to make sure athletes are following the correct course boundary around the field. For miles 2 and 3, athletes will turn right on the corner. If an athlete steps outside of the course boundary, direct them to return to the correct path. If a cone marking a corner falls, please pick it up so athletes can follow the course. Make sure pedestrians and spectators are not on the course while athletes are actively racing.
Location 7: Athletes will pass you three times, once in each mile. Make sure athletes are following the course boundary. This location will also require some parking direction. Please direct cars to turn right (from Rosecrans) and park in lots B-G. Make sure pedestrians and spectators are not on the course while athletes are actively racing. Keep an eye on ahletes crossing the street as they head to the start line.
Concessions: We will sell shirts, drinks, and snacks. We accept zelle, card, and cash.
Finish Line Chute: Make sure athletes are moving continuously through the chute so there is not a back up. Make sure athletes are not sitting down after they cross the finish line. We will have plastic gloves for you.
Medals: Top 20 athletes in each race will receive medals. Make sure to stay alert as the first athletes come in and hand them the medals as they pass through the chute. If there are any disputes from athletes/spectators/coaches/etc, please direct them to Coach Batchelor.
Finish Line Water Table: Make sure cups are filled and ready BEFORE THE RACE IS ENDING so each athlete may take a cup as they finish. Please pick up all discarded cups between races.
