Second Grade
" 2, 4, 6, 8 - 2nd Grade is really GREAT!"
2024-2025 Welcome Letter & Information
Dear Friends and Families,
Our second grade team is delighted to officially welcome you to the 2024-2025 school year! Our team is eager to meet all of you soon! We hope that you have had a fun and relaxing summer. Our vacation time has been spent reading, exploring, gardening, exercising, learning, and enjoying time with family and close friends. We have also been working on making our classroom spaces special spots to spend our upcoming days together.
Our second grade team consists of Jennifer Baroody, Shelby Chadwick, and Caitlin Fitzpatrick. We are excited to partner with you this year in your child's educational journey. Our goal is to create a safe, enjoyable, and productive environment that will foster your student's curiosity and passion for learning, as well as meet their social and emotional needs.
During our first six weeks of school, we will spend a lot of time getting to know each other, building our classroom community, and establishing our rules and routines. We practice these A LOT in the first month of school to ensure our classrooms are brimming with fun, mindfulness, friendship, kindness, empathy, and learning. Please take a moment to read some important information about our beginning days together. Also, please be sure to check out the CRES Student/Parent Handbook online and begin checking your email on a daily basis as the CRES office will be sending important information your way as well.
INDIVIDUAL Supplies
There are a few items that each student needs individually (provided by families, if possible):
(1) lined or blank notebook/sketchbook for free draw/free writing.
(1) Pencil box.
(2) “Sturdy” Plastic Two-pocket folders.
(1) Package of Ticonderoga Pencils (pre-sharpened)
(1) Package of CRAYOLA colored pencils.
Reusable Water Bottle (with name on it).
** Be sure to bring this item daily! **
We will notify families when supplies are low and ask for additional donations. If your student is uncomfortable wearing the school provided headphones , we ask that families send in headphones/earbuds for their child. Personal headphones will be returned at the end of the year. If you are unable to provide the above items, please contact your child’s teacher via email. We are happy to help!
Classroom Donations
Listed below are “community consumable” items. It is always helpful to have a supply to replenish when necessary. If you are able to donate any of these items, we would greatly appreciate it!
Donation Supplies:
* CRAYOLA broad line markers.
* CRAYOLA thin line markers.
* Packages of Ticonderoga Pencils (pre-sharpened)
* CRAYOLA Crayons
* CRAYOLA Colored Pencils
* Elmer’s Glue Sticks
* Tissues
* Ziplock Bags (variety of sizes)
* Pencil-Top Erasers and block erasers
* Plastic Utensils (spoons and forks)
* Paper/Plastic Cups (16 or 18 oz. size)
* Reny’s, Walmart & Amazon Gift Cards
Breakfast & Lunch
Breakfast will be available in the CRES cafeteria daily. Lunch can be brought from home or “purchased” at school. As of right now, all school provided meals will be free of charge again this year. The monthly menu is posted on the CRES website. Our lunchtime is 10:30 - 10:50 am.
Healthy Snacks and Water
We ask that families send in a healthy snack each day along with a water bottle. Communal water fountains will not be an option this year; however, students can refill their water bottles at the refill stations. We will have a snack break in the afternoon this year.
Home Folders
Classes will use a plastic folder that will go home each Friday (Friday Folders). The folders should be “unloaded” during the weekend and returned to school the following Monday or Tuesday.
Daily Dismissal Plan
Please be prepared to share your 2nd graders daily dismissal plan with us. You can email this plan to us, discuss the plan with us on meet & greet day, or send a note/lost on the first day of school in your child’s folder.
Clothing
We will be outdoors in all sorts of weather as long as the "feels like'' temperature is above zero degrees and the wind and rain aren’t “hurricane style”. It's important your child has the appropriate clothing for outdoor learning and play. In a large Ziploc bag, please send in an extra set of clothes, socks, and undergarments. Label the bag with your students first and last name. If we send clothing home to be washed, ensure new items are brought in the following day. We encourage you or your child to check in with the weather each morning and come prepared with “gear” to be comfortable outside. THANK YOU for your help with this!
We are excited to get this year started and look forward to partnering with you as we embark upon this new journey. Please do not hesitate to reach out to your student's classroom teacher with any questions, helpful pieces of information, celebrations, or concerns. Enjoy the last few days of summer!
