Hi Families,

Below is a Remote Learning Chart for students and families. Paper copies for students and supporting materials will be delivered Monday by bus in the morning. The chart gives students options for learning and allows parents to say “Here’s what your teachers need you to choose from each day.”

Our goal is to do the best we can with remote learning and allowing students choices within a structure may help the process. I will be introducing the chart at morning meeting tomorrow, Thursday.

A chart will be sent along each Monday with some new tasks, but many will remain the same as familiar routines are good for learning and fostering independence. Students color in their completed boxes each day with 5 of the 9 activities as the goal. That’s a timeframe of 2-3 hours of activities for most. These can be completed over the course of the day in a manner that works for your family.

We believe each activity is something students can do independently. These are some familiar classroom practices and procedures that your child knows. With minimal technology and reading support your child should be able to complete the five tasks they select on their own, freeing parents to also take care of work you may need to do without distraction.

Remember, each day from 2-3 p.m. classroom teachers are available to answer questions during office hours. This can apply to students or parents who wish to email, Zoom, or call. I encourage students to begin requesting a time to Zoom with me directly and get their specific questions answered with respect to the Remote Learning Structure and Activities.

Each morning after a quick morning meeting @ 8:50 I will ask small groups to stay on for reading, math, or Remote Learning Chart check-ins. Mrs. Bower, Mrs. Sady and I have small groups running to meet with all children for learning and/or social connections weekly. Please take advantage of those times.

We are hoping this chart will be a helpful tool for you and your children. If you feel you have a solid home-schooling system in place, stay with what works best for your family. Please do keep students learning through these next few weeks. Ask me for help, we can make this work. Please take a look and feel free to send along any questions/suggestions you may have. ;) -Kristi Hardy-Gilson
