Poetry of Diversity

For this assignment, students were asked to reflect on a variety of lessons we learned in studying Nomadland. Students wrote at least eleven poems in class, covering everything from Diversity and the ways in which we navigate our existence in a world where The American Dream can be affected by everything from the race we were born into, the city we live in, the voters of our state, and the opportunities we have for work - and all of these aspects of our lives are interwoven with one another.

By studying a variety of poetic forms, the intent behind our messages, and the ways in which race and diversity play a role in what we learn and what happens in our lives on the personal and institutional level, students worked in class and with mentor teaching candidates from Fitchburg State University on poems that define our relationship with diversity, what the American Dream means to us, and how our lives are interconnected with generations of wealth and privilege.
