Academic Biography

Massimiliano Carrara is Full Professor of Logic at the University of Padua (Italy). He graduated in Philosophy from Padua in 1992 and earned his PhD there in 1998, after a period as an Erasmus Graduate Student at Trinity College, Oxford (UK).

His academic career has developed primarily at Padua, where he moved from postdoctoral fellow and research fellow. He has also taught at Bocconi University, the Faculty of Theology of Lugano–USI, the Galilean School of Higher Education, the Renmin University of China where he was Visiting Professor. 

His international experience includes visiting and research appointments at Columbia University, Delft University of Technology, the University of Melbourne, Bielefeld University, the University of Salzburg, the University of Navarra, Hokkaido University, the Scuola Normale Superiore (SNS) and Venice International University.

Carrara’s research spans logic, philosophy of logic, metaphysics, and ontology. He has directed numerous funded projects, including the PRIN project The Varieties of Grounding, has supervised research within the MSCA COFUND UNIPhD programme, and was Principal Investigator of other projects.

His academic service includes extensive editorial activity: he has served as Associate Editor of Argumenta, guest editor for several international journals, and member of scientific boards. He has also held leadership roles in the Italian Society for Analytic Philosophy, including Vice-President. He is President of AMAMI the Italian Society of Analytic Metaphysics.
