What is WIN?

WIN (WIN) is a comprehensive early detection and prevention strategy that identifies struggling students and assists them before they fall behind.  Through WIN, we combine universal screening and high quality instruction for all students with interventions targeted at areas of deficit.

What are Tier II and Tier III interventions?

Tier II and III Math is a program that provides added instruction and interventions to help develop early numeracy, math skills and improve problem solving.  Tier II and III Reading is a program that provides added instruction and interventions to help develop early literacy, reading skills, and comprehension.  These services are typically provided to those students who are performing below grade level or at a low average of their grade level in a specific area.

What is Benchmarking and Progress Monitoring?

Students are given a benchmark assessment, in reading and math, three times a year.  The data management system, AimswebPlus, is used to administer this.  We are able to use this data, along with other testing measures, class performance and feedback from teachers to identify any students who are struggling in the areas of reading and/or math.  To track progress, we use progress monitoring. Tier II students are monitored every other week and Tier III students are monitored weekly.  This data allows us to evaluate the effectiveness of the interventions and make adaptations as needed.  We meet as a team of classroom teachers, interventionists, special education teachers and our principal to evaluate the data every six weeks.
