Congratulations to all of the singers that will be members of the 2025-2026 FHS Choir program next year. We are looking forward to a thrilling year including many crazy and fun parties and social events, an incredible Spring Break trip to New York City, as well as our outstanding annual concert season. Please understand that decisions regarding choir placement are not made lightly -- we know that there will be students that are thrilled with their placement, and others that are not. We truly believe that we will provide an outstanding experience for ALL of the singers in our choir program next year!

Pop Show Costumes
(Required for all students that perform in the show)
Each of our choir numbers will have a "costume" that they will wear for the performance. We want to get this information out to you ASAP so you and your kids can start gathering items. Note that ALL singers are in three numbers at MINIMUM. While some students will "go all out" with some outrageous costumes (we love this), it is our hope that, in most cases, these outfits are things that can be either put together using things that you already own, or use items that aren't particularly expensive.
It is advised that each student bring a small laundry basket (these can be obtained at Dollar Tree) to keep all belongings separate but visible and organized. It is very important that your belongings such as Pop Show shirts and other costumes are labeled with the student’s name as items tend to get picked up by the wrong students.
The date we would like to check all costumes before our Tech Week is FRIDAY, MAY 2nd. Please bring all costume pieces TO CLASS that day. Anything needing to be changed or fixed must then be ready for DRESS (full costume!) REHEARSALS on May 7 and beyond.
Cantabile
Theme: roller disco party. Colors: hot pink, neon green, purple, electric blue. Accessorize with a little bit of sparkle. Sequins, metallic fabrics, etc. Other accessories like fishnet gloves, wristbands, etc will work great!
Choros
Slacks or khakis (any color-thinking a suave vibe), button down dress shirt (any color), belt, fedora hat, cool sunglasses. Most shoes are fine (anywhere from dress shoes to converse), but we prefer no tennis shoes if possible
Side note: The choir OWNS a bunch of cheap amazon-purchased fedoras that the boys are welcomed to use, however we have noticed that in many cases the hat looks too small on several (not all) of their heads. If you don't want to spend money, these hats will be fine. If you'd like for your kiddo to have something that fits a little better, feel free to shop around
Bel Canto
Theme: 50's-60's diner. Inspiration: Grease, Hairspray, The Outsiders. We have a Pinterest board for guidance. "Greaser"/"Rebel" (black pants, with white tee, leather/denim accessories) or "Soc"/"Preppy" (poodle skirts, pencil skirts, capri pants, pastel colors).
Schola Cantorum
Jeans (black or blue), solid color shirts (BRIGHT orange, yellow, red preferably with no logo), black leather accessories of any kind (jackets, gloves, etc - think "rock star")
Assigned shirt colors
Orange: Findley, Patel, Trieu, Thompson, Karg, Slack, Nelson, Garcia, Brown, Meaux
Yellow: McBride, Rodgers, Linklater, Rowe, McKinney, Mantell, Abbott, Seifert, Chase, Duggleby
Red: Stephenson, Lipari, O'Brien, Payne, Spencer, Romell, Chilton-Fernandez, Devita, Gilbert
Kantorei
"Nerd outfits". The girls know what they are doing with this and seem to be on top of it. Shoot Mr. Tyer an email if you need more info.
Opener (ALL SINGERS)
All singers will wear their Pop Show T-Shirt that was sent home a week or two. They can pair it with jeans, joggers, other kinds of long pants, school appropriate skirts, etc. (NOT pajama pants, loungewear, basketball shorts or anything generally looking sloppy.)
During the opener, we are also encouraging them to accessorize with things that are unique to their own personality - hats, jewelry, vests, coats, and more! We want their individual interests and character to shine here!
The Pop Show shirt will also be worn at the very end of the show, but without extraneous/fun accessories as we close with "The Lord Bless You And Keep You"
Combined Men's Number (ALL MEN)
It's an Elton John song, so we want to go pretty wild, fun and creative! Big glasses, feathers, flashy stuff. As long as it's school appropriate, have fun with this one!
Combined Women's Number (ALL WOMEN)
Wear an outfit in your own personal style using the color palette of pinks, oranges, and white.
Senior Song (SENIORS ONLY)
Seniors typically dress up for this. It's not out of the ordinary for girls to wear their prom dresses, and men wearing suits is normal. Please don't spend hundreds of dollars just for this -- just know that it's a "dress nice" occasion

Choir Banquet
(Optional for all students and parents)
We are already looking forward to our fabulous end-of-the-year Choir Banquet held at Bay Oaks Country Club. This event is a lovely opportunity to celebrate our successes of the year and honor many students that have worked so hard to improve and excel. We will also announce our 2025-2026 Choir Officers at the end of the evening.
Ticket purchases
Student Ticket $30
Parent Ticket $50
The Booster Club covers a large portion of the ticket price for the students. Parents are welcomed to attend this event, but they must purchase tickets at the full price. We would ask that you keep family attendance limited to parents, and not include siblings or extended family. Please note that the students will sit at tables near the front, and parents at the back tables (with the exception of the Booster Board) -- Parents typically do not sit with their kids on this evening.
Banquet tickets will be on sale via Square during the week of May 5-9 (Pop Show week)
Banquet tickets on sale at 6:30am on May 5th via Square on the Choir Website
Final note: This new venue is slightly smaller than the one that we have used the last several years. Because of this, we may have to limit the number of parents that can attend, with priority given to the parents of older students starting with Seniors, then Juniors, etc. We hope that everyone that wants to attend will be able to, but we still have to take precaution.
Congratulations to the singers that have been selected to perform in the 2025 FHS Choir Pop Show. Please understand that these decisions were not made lightly - we are so proud of EVERYONE that auditioned!
For those that were selected, we will not be entertaining any requests to changes in performance date or program order. Saturday soloists, mark into your calendar the mandatory rehearsal on Saturday, May 10th from 1:30-2:30 where we will be doing sound and light checks for your song.

IMPORTANT: If you don't read anything else, please read this. We are looking for multiple parent volunteers for our Pop Show performances for various duties including ushers, safety monitors to be stationed in various places throughout the building (mostly helping guests watch for tripping hazards in the dark), intermission helpers to direct guests to extra bathrooms in the main school building, etc. Please use the following Sign-Up Genius to volunteer. Specific duties will be assigned at a later date.

Pre-UIL Concert - Monday, March 31
(MANDATORY for all choir singers regardless of academic eligibility)
Please join us for our Spring UIL concert. At this performance we showcase the music that our singers will be singing at their UIL Contests the following days. This is typically the most challenging and polished music that we perform all year and should prove to be an outstanding evening of music. The concert should last about an hour.
Monday, March 31, 7:30pm
Friendswood High School Performing Arts Center
FREE Admission
Students should plan to wear their black formal dresses and tuxedos.
Singers in Choros will be using their music. Please help to make sure they have a clean, hard cover black binder that doesn't look torn up or over-used
Call time for singers will be 6:45pm, and we expect doors to open for audience no later than 7:10pm. This concert shouldn't last more than an hour at most
UIL Concert & Sight Reading Competition
Tuesday, April 1 for KT, SC, CR, and CB. Wednesday, April 2 for BC
(MANDATORY for all singers - Must be academically eligible to participate)
Please find the attached document with details related to this competition.
We encourage parents that wish to hear the music to come to the concert on the night of March 31st rather than coming to watch the competition. We don't want to distract the kiddos while they are competing. Thank you for understanding!
2025-2026 FHS Choir Auditions - Monday through Thursday, April 14-17
(Mandatory for all returning choir members in Choros, Cantabile, Bel Canto, and Schola Cantorum)
Auditions will consist of:
A vocalization, primarily to check vocal range.
Singing of a pre-selected excerpt from one or two of their UIL pieces.
An eight measure sight reading example. They may choose from Easy, Medium, or Hard.
While the audition can and does make a difference in their placement, there are many other factors from throughout the school year that affect what choir singers are placed into including, but not restricted to:
Academic eligibility
Competition participation - Primarily the Region/All-State process, and to a lesser extent UIL Solo & Ensemble
Sight Reading proficiency throughout the year in Sight Reading Factory. This is a moving bar from year to year depending on the effort and skill of the students.
Attitude and ability to work with peers and directors
Vocal skill and talent -- It doesn't help to be an incredible sight reader if the singer cannot sing loud enough to be heard, or doesn't sing with a pretty tone.
NEED! While it may seem unfair, sometimes a choir just NEEDS more basses or more altos, so a lesser skilled singer may move up because they can fill a role that is needed.
The number of kids we have in total: We can't have 40 girls in Kantorei, 30 girls in Schola Cantorum, and 12 girls in Bel Canto. Lines have to be drawn to keep enough singers in each class (this number changes from year to year based on how many singers we have). We also have to keep a balance between the number of boys and girls in a mixed choir. Finally, it is important to draw lines so that each choir retains some confident leadership in singing.
Please know that decisions about choirs for each year are not made lightly. Mr. Tyer and Mrs. Smith love to build up singers, and to encourage our student's confidence, but there is no way in these situations to make everyone happy. We want our singers and parents to know that we strive to make EVERY choir in our program have a positive, challenging, and rewarding experience, and we believe that we succeed in those efforts!

Saturday, May 10 7:00pm, $15
Tickets will go on sale on the morning of April 28. Keep an eye on your email and the Choir Website for more info
Note: in the past couple of years we have added a 2:30 matinee to the Saturday performance day. This was never intended to be a permanent addition, however we won't know for sure until after we hold auditions in a couple of weeks. If we DO choose to add the matinee performance, please know that the Saturday rehearsal schedule would obviously have to change. In the event that this occurs, you should receive an email soon after the program posting that details the changes.
Auditions for Pop Show - Monday through Wednesday, April 7-9
(Optional for all singers)
Auditions for Pop Show solos and small groups will be held in a couple of weeks on Monday through Wednesday (April 7-9). These will be long evenings, and we can occasionally run behind, so please be patient! We may have as many as 90 acts auditioning for somewhere between 40-44 spots. Please understand that decisions on who to take and who to cut are taken VERY seriously -- we simply cannot take everyone. With this large number of auditioning acts, it is likely that we will have to cut some very good acts. Encourage your kiddos to be well prepared and have their songs memorized!
A Few Thoughts:
Try to cut your own song down to appx 3:00
Upbeat songs are best!
Restrictions:
You may audition on up to ONE solo and ONE group number only.
We will NOT accept audition tracks that are videos of any kind, nor songs played from Spotify/Google Music/Apple Music – you must OWN the track! NO A CAPPELLA SINGING!
Tracks must be a REAL karaoke track. Bad piano recordings will not be accepted.
We recommend www.karaoke-version.com for purchasing tracks
Please notify Mr. Tyer of any live instrumentation in advance.
We will not allow anyone to play or sing who is not currently enrolled in the FHS Choir program.
Pop Show Costumes
(REQUIRED for all singers)
We aren't quite ready to divulge this information quite yet. Please keep an eye out for another email in coming weeks that will probably ONLY contain this info. When in doubt, check the choir website for updates
Pop Show Rehearsals
(REQUIRED for all singers)
We have several MANDATORY rehearsals for Pop Show outside of the school day. While we try hard to respect the time of our singers throughout the year, Pop Show is a BIG production, and we need these rehearsals to get things together. In some cases, music and choreography is taught at these rehearsals and won't be taught again -- it is imperative that singers are present or they miss out on being in several numbers in the show! Please do your best to rearrange schedules and have kids ask off from work. Rehearsals are as follows:
Tuesday, April 22 4:00-6:00pm (FHS Choir Room)
Monday, April 28 4:00-7:00pm (FHS Choir Room)
Monday, May 5 4:00-7:00pm (PAC)
Tuesday, May 6 4:00-7:00pm (PAC)
Wednesday, May 7 4:00-7:00pm (This may end earlier for some singers)
Thursday, May 8 4:00-7:00pm
Saturday, May 10 1:30-2:30pm (Saturday soloists only), 2:30-5:30 ALL singers (PAC)
We will provide pizza for dinner on Saturday
Note: Seniors and members of Kantorei need to be prepared to stay later after any rehearsal the week of May 5-8
Pop Show Parent Number
(Optional for all parents)
It's that time of year again for Mrs. Smith to put out the call to all choir parents to join in for the Pop Show Parent Number! This is NOT only for senior parents (but is extra special for them), we need lots of participants and plenty of voices. (Don't worry - we are singing in unison and no experience is required!). Please fill out this survey if you would like to join us, and Mrs. Smith will follow up via email with more information and a rehearsal schedule for all that choose to join!

Pre-UIL Concert
UIL Solo & Ensemble - Saturday, February 22 (Hosted at Friendswood High School)
(Optional for all choir students - Registration is already complete)
The UIL Solo competition is a great opportunity for beginning singers to take their first, low-pressure steps into competing. Singers do not compete against other students, but rather simply sing a song for a rating. We are thrilled that we have 116 singers competing on this day! Some extra info:
Competition held at Friendswood High School
Plan to enter the building via door 45 (NOT the side that the PAC is on. This is the door near the culinary room)
Singers should plan to dress nice/professional
Men: Slacks or Khakis, button down dress shirt (not a casual shirt). Dress shoes, dark socks. Ties and suit coats are not required, but are certainly not considered to be overdressed for this - if you have them, wear them, but don't feel like you have to purchase them specifically for this day. Jeans are not appropriate for this formal performance.
Women: Dress professionally as you would for an awards ceremony or a job interview. Dresses, pantsuits, slacks/blouses/sweaters are perfect. Dresses that are flimsy/strappy, show an excess of skin on back/shoulders/legs and are better suited for the beach should be saved for vacation time :) Shoes should be closed flats, heels, or boots - no sneakers, no strappy sandals. Jeans are not appropriate for this formal performance.
It is expected to be cold and rainy on this day, and our holding room is the Cafeteria, which means students will have to pass outdoors on the way to their performance room. Bring something warm!
Students should make sure to memorize their song as well as the last name of their composer (they can ask directors or voice teachers how to pronounce their composer name).
In the next week or so, singers will receive their scheduled performance time. They should plan to arrive at FHS 15 minutes before their scheduled performance time. They will be in the competition room for anywhere from 5-10 minutes, and can depart as soon as they are finished performing.
It is always possible that the competition will run behind, and sometimes it even runs ahead. If singers want to arrive earlier, that's totally fine. If the competition is running behind, we ask families to be patient. It would probably not be a good idea to plan an event 25 minutes after the scheduled performance time in case we run late.
Alternate Competition Date
For those students that have a school related conflict on Saturday, February 22, we have arranged an alternate competition date on Monday, February 24 during school. Those students have already made us aware of conflicts and this alternate day has already been planned. Please understand that we cannot accommodate non-school related conflicts such as family trips, reunions, parties, etc.
Section Parties - Friday, February 28
(Optional for all singers)
Our section parties are our third major social event of the year. The parties are hosted at the homes of choir students and are SO MUCH FUN!! These are great opportunities for students to get to know members of other choirs and to make new friends. (No money will be taken up prior to the parties - just come ready to have fun!)
Soprano Party (all sopranos from all choirs)
Daisy & Roxie Harris' house
23 Windsong Lane
Attire: comfy loungewear
Fun games and activities as well as a movie. There will be a root beer float soda bar.
Alto Party (all altos from all choirs)

This is typically the most challenging and polished music that we perform all year and should prove to be an outstanding evening of music. The concert should last about an hour.
This past Saturday, January 11th, five incredible singers represented the Friendswood HS Choir program at the Area Audition (also known as the "All-State" audition) at Deer Park High School. These singers began working on this music back in July, and advanced through three incredibly challenging rounds to reach this final audition. Only 2% of the thousands of singers across Texas that began the audition process are selected to be members of the prestigious Texas All-State Choir, and this year ALL FIVE of our singers were chosen by their judges for this honor. They will join their directors in February travelling to the Texas Music Educators Association convention for an experience of a lifetime. Please join us in congratulating these young women on their incredible accomplishment!!
All-State Mixed Choir
Trinity Bosley - Alto 2 (2nd Chair)
All State Treble Choir
Hailey Setoudeh - Soprano 2 (2nd Chair)
Haley Smith - Alto 1 (2nd Chair)
Avery Buras - Alto 1 (3rd Chair)
All-State Tenor/Bass Choir
Paige Garcia (1st Chair)
Last night, the Friendswood High School Choir competed in the third round on the way to becoming a member of the Texas All-State Choir. This audition, called the Pre-Area Audition, is typically considered to be the most challenging as 15 singers compete in each of the eight voice part sections, and only the top five advance. Many of these voice part sections started with around 150 singers back in September! Out of the 22 FHS singers that competed last night, five singers ranked in the top five of their sections, and will be representing our school at the State audition in January. Please help us in congratulating the following outstanding musicians (rank in parenthesis):
Advancing to the All-State Audition:
Soprano 2: Hailey Setoudeh (4)
Alto 1: Avery Buras (4), Haley Smith (5)
Alto 2: Trinity Bosley (3)
Tenor 1: Paige Garcia (5)
The following singers are alternates in their sections and may be called to compete at Area if someone is not able to participate:
Brie McDowell, Roxie Harris, Cassidy Zavala, Zoey Steingas, Aiden Stephenson, Elijah Meaux
We are thankful to our voice faculty, who spend hours across months of preparation with our All-State Candidates, and to our music faculty from elementary through junior high, who prepare our musicians with an invaluable foundation for a lifetime of music making.
Please congratulate all these hard-working musicians!

Holiday Concert
(ALL items below are Required for ALL Singers)
Rehearsal - Wednesday, Dec. 11, 4:00-7:00pm
Singers should report to the PAC immediately after school
This will be a full walk through of the entire show, and will also be the only time for students to hear their friends perform their holiday solos (they will not be sitting in the audience during this show). This is our first time doing a "Pop" style show in the new PAC, and technical difficulties are certainly possible
We would like for all singers to stay for the entire duration of this rehearsal
Chamber Singers should be able to rehearse in the PAC in the morning on Wednesday. AcaBellas may be called for a rehearsal after the soloist rehearsal in the evening
Junior High Choir Concert - Thursday, Dec. 12, 5:30pm in the FHS PAC
We will be performing a joint song including all high school and all junior high singers (over 300 singers!) at the close of the junior high concert
Call time for high school singers will be 6:00pm
While we would love for our choir singers to stay after school to attend and support the junior high choir, we know that many of them will need to go home. They are welcome to stay or go, but regardless must be with us no later than 6:00pm
All singers that are not in the audience should plan to be in their holding rooms (black box or dressing rooms) at 6:00pm.
If they did not stay to see the junior high concert starting at 5:30 they should not come in late! Go straight to the holding room.
Students will not be able to leave between the junior high and high school concerts
High School Concert - Thursday, Dec. 12, 7:00pm in the FHS PAC
All students should already be with us from the 6:00pm call time
Singers should be wearing their black tuxedos and formal black dresses
We expect doors to open for audience members at 6:40pm, and the performance will begin at 7:00pm
We plan to completely clear the auditorium between the two concerts!
This is a longer "Pop" style show that will run around (and possibly over) two hours with a 10 minute intermission in the middle
Admission is FREE!
Choir Holiday Party
(OPTIONAL, but highly encouraged, for all choir students!!)
Location: Leavesley Park Jones Hangar
Address: 901 Buckingham Dr., Friendswood, TX 77546
Time: 6:00-9:00pm
We are looking forward to one of our favorite long standing traditions: the FHS Choir Holiday Party!! This is typically one of our most well-attended events of the school year, and we’ve already heard exciting buzz about it drawing near.
Parking is VERY limited! Kids are encouraged to carpool or to be dropped off/picked up.
Dinner will be served from 6:00-7:00-ish
Pizza will be provided by the booster club
Each ensemble will be asked to bring certain items:
Kantorei: Desserts and other sweet items
Schola Cantorum & Choros: 12 packs of soft drinks or a gallon of tea (sweet or unsweet is fine!)
Bel Canto: A special holiday snack to add to the table to share. (Discussed in class - bring a favorite thing and surprise us!)
Cantabile: A bag of a salty snack (chips, pretzels, popcorn, or some other salty snacky favorite)
One of the biggest events of the evening is the annual largest white elephant gift exchange in Texas! This will take place from appx 7:00-9:00 (it usually takes just about the entire time!)
Students are encouraged to bring a wrapped gift (plan to keep gifts to appx $10 and under)
Guidelines:
No live animals
No pillows with people's faces on them
No used “junk” from your home. Gifts should be either thoughtful or fun, but not trash
Keep things school-appropriate
What happens:
When a student arrives with a gift, their name will go in a spinner.
When their name is called, they can either choose an unopened gift, or they can “steal” a gift that someone else opened. (Who will bring the most coveted gift?!)
Gifts may only be stolen a total of two times before it is “locked”
We hope that all of our students will be able to join us!!
"Jacks Project" Toy Drive

The FHS Choir has decided to take part in collecting toys for "Jack's Project".

Homecoming Parade
Region Auditions
Region Clinic/Concert
Patriotic Half Time Rehearsal
Patriotic Half Time Performance
Holiday Concert Solo Auditions
Homecoming Parade - Thursday, October 24
(Optional for all students)
We will meet at approximately 6 PM at First Baptist Friendswood on Morningside. The parade is scheduled to begin at 6:30 PM and should last about an hour.
Parking is extremely limited. It is usually best to drop kids off and then pick them back up at the end.
The parade will end at Chase Bank and culminates in a pep rally in the parking lot, and you will be able to pick kids up here. Note that you will not be able to park - just swing through to pick kids up. Please make sure phones are charged and you can communicate well.
Students that will be driving themselves may want to park at a nearby area, such as Perry's, SnoBeach, Mary Queen Catholic Church, etc and walk over to the parade start point.
Our theme is "Alice In Wonderland". Most of the main characters have been claimed by our seniors and officers. Other students are encouraged to dress as flowers, or cards, or other "Wonderland" type things. If they don't have a costume, simply wearing jeans and a white or red shirt will be fine and fit the color scheme.
Region Auditions - Saturday, October 26
(Only for students that advanced through District in September)
All singers that advanced through the first round will be auditioning for the Region audition. The format for the day will be very similar to the District audition, but should be a shorter day as there will be half the number of singers auditioning. Students have been given a schedule, but simply put, students need to arrive at 6:15am, and our best guess would be a return to FHS sometime between 3:30-4:00pm.
At this round, the top 15 singers in each section will advance to the third round, Pre-Area.
ALL women that have advanced to this round will be members of one of the Region Choirs, with the top 20 being members of the Mixed Choir, and chairs 21-48 being members of the Treble Choir.
The top 20 ranked men will be members of the Region Mixed Choir. Because there is no Region Men's Choir, any men that do not rank in the top 20 will not be a member of a Region Choir.
IMPORTANT: ALL SINGERS THAT PLACE IN A REGION CHOIR WILL BE COMMITTED TO THE FOLLOWING FUTURE EVENTS:
Region Clinic Rehearsals - Thursday, Nov 7. These rehearsals will take place during the school day. We will take buses in the morning before school, and students should be back in class for 6th and 7th periods.
On November 7th: We will meet at Friendswood HS at 7:00am and depart via School Bus at 7:15. The clinic is held at Moody Methodist Church in Galveston
The clinic is a long rehearsal where singers will prepare the music that they will be singing at the Saturday Concert
All singers should plan to wear their black FHS choir shirt and jeans
Please note that students that miss this Thursday clinic will forfeit their position in the Region Choir
After the clinic is over, the bus will stop for a time at the intersection of 528 and 518 for students to get lunch
Options include Taco Bell, Starbucks, Jack-In-The-Box, Schlotzskys, Chipotle, Chick-Fil-A, Summer Moon, and Jersey Mikes. (MOD can sometimes be VERY slow. We encourage kids to avoid this option)
Region Concerts - Saturday, Nov. 9. This is a full day event. We will take buses to the rehearsal location, and the performance will be in the afternoon. Parents are expected to attend the concert, which is a tremendous honor for your child, and transport them home afterwards. There will NOT BE A BUS HOME AFTER THIS EVENT.
On November 9th: We will meet at Friendswood HS at 7:15 and depart via School Bus at 7:30. The clinic day and culminating concert is held at Gloria Dei in Webster.
Singers will rehearse all day and then perform in the evening concert at 5:30pm
They can dress casual for the day, but must be wearing school appropriate attire
ALL SINGERS SHOULD BRING:
Their full formal uniform in some kind of hanging bag, whether cloth or a dry cleaning plastic covering. Please make sure their things are labeled clearly -- most of these uniforms look VERY similar!
REAL copies of their Region Music to be performed. They can USE photocopies, but MUST have the real copies with them.
A pencil (or two.. or three..)
Water bottles and small snacks are a good idea.
Lunch Plans
A Chick Fil A lunch will be provided for $10 that includes a Chick Fil A sandwich, chips, cookie, and a bottle of water. We may or may not try to take this money up in advance - stay tuned!
IMPORTANT!
The concert begins at 5:30pm. There is limited seating, and often people end up standing in the back. If you want to have a seat, you might considering arriving a bit early.
Patriotic Half Time Rehearsal & Performance
(MANDATORY for all singers that are academically eligible)
Rehearsal - Thursday, October 31, 4:00-4:30pm
The rehearsal will take place at FHS in the Front Mall (near the nurse's office).
While this short rehearsal may seem insignificant, it is a vital one as we organize over 250 students from choir, band, Wranglerettes, and theater for the Friday night program. Please help us to be sure that your child is present!
Performance - Friday, November 1
All students should plan to arrive at the stadium no later than 6:30pm.
All singers should plan to enter via the gate farthest from the school building (closest to the water tower), and will join us in the stands on that far end behind the Wranglerettes.
When singers arrive at 6:30, they MUST stay with us (or their other organization at the game) until after the half time program is over.
They will not be allowed to visit friends/family until after halftime, and should not be leaving to get food/drinks. It is a LOT of kids to keep up with, so we cannot have them coming and going at will.
Please do not send little siblings/boyfriends/girlfriends with concessions for them (the nachos can wait until after halftime), or for them to sit with the Choir. We are not responsible for these individuals and this is a mandatory Choir event for our students that is graded. Thank you for respecting our requirements on this - we will abruptly shoo boyfriends/girlfriends/food away until after halftime.
Singers should all wear blue jeans (shorts are not acceptable), closed toed shoes (no flip flops), and their Patriotic Half Time t-shirt. This t-shirt was previously sent home with all new students.
Students involved in other organizations for varsity football games (Wranglerettes, ColorGuard, Band, Blue Crew, Mighty Crew, Cheer, etc) are encouraged to wear their uniforms for THAT organization instead of their PH shirt and jeans. We love to see all the different organizations represented within the choir!
Singers are released as soon as the Half Time program is completed. There will be no supervision of students after this time. They may stay at the game or go home as they wish.
Booster Board members will serve as chaperones in the stands before halftime for this event. Other parents, family members, siblings, friends, etc will not be allowed to sit with the choir - there is simply not enough room. Thank you for respecting this.
Holiday Concert Solo Auditions - Thursday, November 14th
(Optional for all singers)
We will be holding auditions for solos and small groups to perform at the Holiday Concert on December 12th. Some thoughts for these auditions:
Songs should be cut down to 3:00 if possible
Songs should be memorized
Streaming services (Apple Music, Spotify, YouTube, etc) will not be accepted at the audition. You must OWN the track.
If you are planning anything out of the ordinary it would be a great idea to let Mr. Tyer know in advance (instruments, props, choreography, etc).
Please consider singing upbeat songs! They are much more entertaining to the audience!
We encourage singers to show during their audition that they can be visually entertaining and engaging. Staring at the ceiling is boring!
We will not accept group numbers using siblings, friends outside of choir, or choir alumni
Students can audition for one solo, and can be a member of one group (duet, trio, etc)
Congratulations to the singers that will be performing at PastaPalooza on Friday, October 11th! This is an alphabetized list - we will determine the performance order later this week. Mrs. Smith should already have most of your tracks, and will be starting to make edits soon if needed.

District Auditions - Saturday, September 21, Manvel HS
(Required only for those singers that have registered)
District is the first of a four-audition process (you will hear us refer to it as the "Region" or "All-State" process). Students have been working on their own to learn 3 to 4 pieces of collegiate level music for this first round with hopes to advance to the next competition in October. If you have not already ordered a music packet please do so ASAP. Info for ordering (as well as the practice tracks) can be found on the FHS Choir website under "Region/All-State".
At each round, singers are required to "sing-off" their music for the directors. They have already signed up for time slots to do this. Sing-offs start later this week and will continue through the end of next week. If your child has a sing-off scheduled outside of the school day, please make every effort to get them to us on time, as we don't really have openings for make-up times.
Please see the attached District Info Form for more information regarding the audition day.
Back To School Bash - Thursday, September 26, Cafeteria, 4:30-7:00pm
(Optional for all choir students)
This is our first all-choir social event of the year. Students will be sorted into teams and play crazy-fun games organized by our incredible Choir Officers. This is typically one of our most highly attended events of the year. Food (usually pizza and sodas) will be provided by the booster club. We will discuss more details with the kids in class as the event draws closer.
PastaPalooza Pre-Game Dinner
(REQUIRED for all members of Bel Canto, Schola Cantorum, and Kantorei!)
PastaPalooza Auditions - Tuesday, September 24, Choir Room, 4:00-7:00pm
(Optional for all choir students including those in Choros and Cantabile)
Students may audition one solo and one small group, and are limited to one of each (for a maximum of two auditions, total). Some notes:
We do not allow a cappella singing. All auditions must be with a track. If you cannot find one, we recommend trying karaoke-version.com as many of our singers have had success there.
We do not allow streamed tracks from Spotify, Apple Music, etc, nor streamed videos from YouTube and the like. You must OWN the track.
"Canned piano" recordings, such as a friend playing a song that is recorded onto a phone, is typically not acceptable.
If students are able, we would like them to try to cut their song down to appx. 3:00. If they don't know how to do this, we can take care of it if they get selected to perform.
The more entertaining they can be, the better - engaging the "audience" (their choir directors) in the audition is a BIG plus!
Upbeat songs receive some brownie points!
No one is allowed to sing or play that is not a member of the FHS Choir Program.
PastaPalooza Performances - Friday, October 11, Cafeteria, 5:00-7:00
(MANDATORY only for members of Bel Canto, Schola Cantorum, & Kantorei)
Tickets will be $15 per person, purchasable via Square. The link can be found below and at the bottom of the choir website. (Remember that performers don't eat for free!) The meal will be delicious pasta, salad, & bread from Sofia's Italiano!.
We will ask ALL choir students (those performing, and those not) to bring in ONE DOZEN of a BAKED GOOD for us to offer at our dessert table at PastaPalooza. We lovingly call these: ZERTS! Please bring in your ZERTS on the morning of Friday, Oct. 11 and leave them in the Choir room. They can be homemade or store-bought but we ask that you PACKAGE THEM INDIVIDUALLY. A sheet cake will not work. A dozen cookies from the HEB bakery, that you have separated into individual servings into Ziploc bags, is PERFECT! We love having nut-free, gluten-free, and dairy-free options as possible, so please mark them as such if that's what you decide to send!
Pre-Purchase Tickets (Click here!)
The ticket covers the meal AND the performance. If you want to watch the show, but aren't planning to eat, you will still have to buy a ticket!
Students will report to the Cafeteria immediately when school is out for setup and sound checks.
The performances will start somewhere around 5:00 and typically run about an hour (sometimes a bit less).
Food will be served from 5:00-7:00pm
PastaPalooza Parent Volunteers
More than ANY other event during the school year, THIS is the one that we need LOTS of help! There are shifts for set up, food serving, ticket taking, clean up, and more. Please consider signing up for a shift using the "Sign Up Genius" link below:
This email includes a quick reminder regarding our REQUIRED parent forms and fee payments as well as a couple of calendar date changes:
Forms and Fees
We only have about 50 out of 160 students accounted for on our Parent forms. If you have not already, please click the link below and fill out the form for your student. If you have more than one child in FHS Choir, you will need to fill it out for each child (sorry!).
Student Info & Emergency Forms
Every choir student also has a required fee that must be paid at the beginning of the year.
These fees are not optional! Please click the link below that applies to you:
NEW students in the FHS Choir program will need to pay $150 for the required student fee.
RETURNING students in the FHS Choir program will need to pay $50 for the required student fee.
OPTIONAL items include:
PastaPalooza tickets $15 each
Booster Club Membership $10
Yard Signs $35
Car Decal $5
Parent Black Choir Shirt $10
Replacement items for lost items (returning singers)
Calendar Date Changes
We understand that all of you have busy lives, and because of this we try VERY hard to post a calendar and stick with it so you don't have to keep rearranging your lives to accommodate us. Unfortunately, we had a couple of unavoidable conflicts come up requiring us to change dates. Please make note of the following:
Meet & Greet (previously scheduled on Aug 29) has been pushed back to Thursday, September 5
Holiday Party (previously scheduled on Dec 17) will now be in Friday, December 13
First, we would like to extend a welcome to all of our new choir families! We are thrilled to have you join our team. Near the beginning of most months you should receive a "Choir Notes" email from us. These emails tend to be very lengthy, but we try to cover every detail regarding what we have going on in that month rather than sending a million tiny emails that can be hard to keep track of. If you ever feel that you may have missed a "Choir Notes" email, we also post them to the Choir Website (bookmark it!!) under Announcements.

IMPORTANT - PLEASE DO THIS NOW
(MANDATORY for all families)
Due by the end of the day on Friday, Sept. 6th.
Choir Handbook and Emergency Contact Information
The choir handbook includes important policies and procedures maintained by the choir program throughout the year as well as a link to the choir calendar. All singers travel with us at least once during the school year (UIL Concert & Sight Reading competition in March), and we will need emergency information from all singers before we take them off campus. This is a convenient time to take care of collecting that information.
Choir Order Form
ALL singers will need to pay a fee for the 2024-2025 school year.
NEW students in the FHS Choir program will need to pay $150 for the required student fee.
RETURNING students in the FHS Choir program will need to pay $50 for the required student fee.
OPTIONAL items include:
PastaPalooza tickets $15 each
Booster Club Membership $10
Yard Signs $35
Car Decal $5
Parent Black Choir Shirt $10
Replacement items for lost items (returning singers)
Uniform Fitting - September 3-6 during class
All singers that are new to choir will be fitted for a choir dress or tuxedo during this time. If there are any returning choir members that have outgrown their uniform, please send an email to Mrs. Smith (msmith@fisdk12.net) ASAP so that she can take care of them.
Meet & Greet - Thursday, August 29, FHS Cafeteria, 6:00pm
(REQUIRED for all singers! Highly recommended for all parents)
Our first event of the year, the Meet & Greet is the parent's first time to hear the combined might of the FHS Choirs as they present the Alma Mater and National Anthem at a full 160 voices strong! We will go over choir policies, important calendar dates, and field questions. The program should last an hour or less.
District Auditions - Saturday, September 21, Manvel HS
(Optional, but highly encouraged for all choir singers)
District is the first of a four-audition process (you will hear us refer to it as the "Region" or "All-State" process). Students will work on their own to learn 3 to 4 pieces of collegiate level music for each round that they advance to. We encourage even singers that are new to HS Choir to give it a try! We have practice tracks available for them to work with, and students are typically great at helping each other out. It's challenging, but this is often one of the best ways for a student to achieve rapid growth as a singer. If interested, the first step will be to order a music packet ASAP. Info for ordering (as well as the practice tracks) can be found on the FHS Choir website under "Region/All-State". There will be about 6 weeks to learn the music before the first round of auditions held on September 21.
Pay District Fee (click here!)
District Workshop - Saturday, August 17, FHS Choir Room
(Optional for all auditionees)
We are excited to present our second annual FHS District Workshop day! On this day singers will spend one hour per piece (with an hour dedicated to foreign language text) working with one of our directors or voice teachers. Singers that have had experience with the music already from summer camps can help guide newer singers, and those that are just beginning will get an early boost as they start practice. Our intended schedule will look like this:
8:00-12:00 - All Soprano 2, Alto 2, Tenor 2, Bass 2's practice
Lunch Break
1:00-5:00 - All Soprano 1, Alto 1, Tenor 1, Bass 1's practice
There will be NO FEE to participate in this workshop, so we hope to see everyone come out!!
