Hello Warrior Athletes,
Congratulations on making a Frankfurt Warriors team! I'm looking forward to another fun but competitive athletic season here at FIS. Most of you already know me, but I still want to take the chance to introduce myself. I'm Mr. Scott, the athletic trainer/physiotherapist for the Athletic Department. I've prepared some questions to help you understand what it is I do and how to see me.
What's an athletic trainer?
Athletic trainers are healthcare providers responsible for the prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehab of sports injuries — at FIS, that means injuries that occur during practice or games throughout your season.
How does that differ from the school nurses at the Health Center?
The school nurses are on campus until 16:30 and care for all injuries and illnesses that happen during the school day. The nurses communicate with me if they feel something may affect your ability to participate in sports.
What are your office hours? When can we see you?
12:30-19:00 or until practices and events are finished.
Students may not miss or leave class to see me. Middle School athletes can come during Period 4b (lunch break). High school students may visit during a free period or after school.
Early Practice Treatment: Before 3:30.
Late Practice Treatment: 4:15-4:45
Injuries that occur in practice or games should be examined as soon as possible after they occur.
How can we contact you?
scott_mcneil@fis.edu
Use speed dial "Scott" from the office phone on my windowsill.
I'm injured. Should I still come for practice?
Yes, you should attend practice. We will use that time to re-evaluate and rehab your injury, so that you can return as quickly as possible. Speak with your coach and me if you can't come to practice while injured.
What if I injured myself at home or with my club team?
I will still evaluate the injury to determine whether or not you can safely participate in our practices and games.
Do you have any resources for injuries or other health-related subjects?
Yes, see the Warrior Strong Resource Center for more information. Contact me if you have a suggestion for an interesting subject for a post for the WSRC.
What are some facts about you?
I grew up in Joliet, Illinois, but feel like more of a cheesehead than an Illinoisan.
I played baseball and ran cross country and track and field in school.
I've lived in Germany for over 11 years!
I've been to 18 countries, and you'll never guess my favorite!
I've been to 6 (and counting) 24-hour car races and 1 F1 race.
My favorite sports team is the Chicago Cubs.
I'm learning guitar (poorly).
My favorite band is Pink Floyd. If you can tell me what these emojis have to do with Pink Floyd, I'll give you a high 5 (ask your parents!).💸⏰🐖🔥🧱
Don't forget to say "hi" if you see me at practice and games.
Mr. Scott
The Warrior Way is our athletic philosophy. It was a collaborative effort with athletes, coaches, and parents. Here what they have to say about the Warrior Way in this new video.
From our Athletic Department Philosophy: "We believe that the success of our program is based on our student athletes' personal growth, development of a strong moral character and ability to perform in a team environment. We strive to foster the Warrior spirit, instill pride in our school, and above all, ensure that our athletes leave with positive memories and a lifelong love of sport."
You've probably heard the phrase "teamwork makes a dream work." But what if sport psychology research shows that it's true? Whether for individual or team sports, athletes have people around them that make up their "team" and fostering harmony among the team has been shown to increase athlete performance! Pretty cool, right? So how can we make this happen? Read more in this short excerpt from Terry Orlick's In Pursuit of Excellence, 5th Ed.
