Newsletter Week: April 27, 20026
This Week: April 27, 2026
This week, we wrapped up our social studies book. I don't have time for the additional book, so we will review and apply some of the deeper lessons and play with them a bit more. We are also nearing the end of our geometry unit. We will be reviewing skills from the year to make sure we are still sharp on those!
Next Week: May 4-8, 2026
Monday -
Tuesday - Last ASL class for some. Mrs. Gower will provide lunch for those students who have been taking the ASL class all year. Those students are responsible for their own drinks, though.
Wednesday - last library day! All books need to be returned!
Thursday - mass at 8:35 am
Friday - May Crowning at 1 pm - all students may dress up. If not dressing up, please wear the school uniform.
Side Notes:
We will eventually be completing a Mother's Day project in class, and each student will need a photo of themselves with their mom. It can be a recent picture or an older one, your preference. Please send in an actual photo (4x6 or smaller is fine). You will get the photo back, but it will be laminated so just keep that in mind when selecting one. Please have these sent in by Monday, May 4th.
We have finished all our timed tests! Finished belt earnings will be coming home today! We have some time yet to work on earning other belts with redo time!
“City of Ember” has really picked up, and I just love seeing the excitement from them! They have been working hard deciphering the chewed-up message! We will be watching the movie on May 19 and doing a book-to-movie comparison.
$1 out-of-uniform dates are: May 11. All dates are $1 each per student. You may pay each time or all at once. All money collected goes to the student council’s chosen charity.
Zoo information:
Wednesday, May 13, 2026
Permission slips for the zoo are coming home today. Students are to wear their SMS spirit shirt and are allowed to wear out-of-uniform bottoms. The cost is $17 per student. Please either have exact money or write a check made out to St. Michael School. We will not be able to make change. Since this is a school field trip, students cannot use a family pass. Chaperones may, though. Please have permission slips and money turned in by Monday, May 4.
Students will need to pack a lunch for the day. They will be responsible for carrying their own lunch. Lunch can be held in their regular lunchbox or in a brown paper bag that can be thrown away after lunch.
Students may want to have a jacket or sweatshirt, depending on the weather, a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen.
Students will leave the school around 9:30 am, or as soon as FC busing arrives. We will meet all chaperones at the zoo. Students will need to remain on the bus until I call Mrs. Bateson, after I have paid at the general admission area. I tried to find a faster way, but the zoo doesn’t have one.
I will email all chaperones their list of students ahead of time. Chaperones are more than welcome to walk with other groups.
Chaperones will need to get themselves into the zoo either by paying or using a zoo pass. Chaperones may keep their own child from the trip to either continue at the zoo or leave with the parent. All students and chaperones will need to meet at the front entrance for a final head count at 12:50. From there, we will check who is going home with a parent or riding the bus back to school.
Due to the entire zoo being “cashless,” we are asking that no one go to the gift shops. This will allow more time visiting the animals, which is the purpose of the trip. This would mean sending money with students is not necessary.
From Mrs. Bateson: ELA and Health/Science
Reading -We are technically done with unit 6, but we will be doing some review of the skills we learned. We are also reading the chapter book The City of Ember and will be watching the movie at the end of the school year.
Science - We will be working on the life cycle of butterflies. We also have caterpillars that we are watching undergo metamorphosis. We will release them once they hatch.
Thank you!
