Usually you setup FilmHUB by yourself, without assist from FilmHUB crew. In this tutorial, the customer cannot install FilmHUB on their premises of security reasons. As a special service, FilmHUB offers to host a storage for an additional cost:
- Send an E-mail to sales@filmhubsoftware.com from the E-mail account you wish to use for administrating and sending files yourself.
- In the E-mail, supply the desired name of domain, in this tutorial "acmefilm".
- We will schedule the setup and confirm when it is up and running.
- An invite to administrate/start using FilmHUB will be sent when setup is finished.
Inviting another employee
FilmHUB has the following three clearance levels:
- Admin; Are allowed to administer FilmHUB and access all shares.
- Employees; Access all shares, create shares and invite users.
- Users; Can only access shares given explicit access to (default clearance).
In this tutorial, we have another employee "sven@acmefilm" that should be able to work on entire storage and be able to create shares the same way administrator are:
- Logon to your FilmHUB, https://acmefilm.filmhub.cloud in this tutorial.
- In Transfers view, click the invite user button or go to ADMIN>USERS and click [ INVITE USER ].
- Enter "sven@acmefilm" and click [ NEXT ].
- For Clearance, choose "Employee".
- Click [ + INVITE ] to create user and send invitation. User will get an E-mail for activating their account and download the desktop high speed transfer app.
We assume we have a film project called "myfilm" and want to share it so freelancer "mia@acmefilm.com" can read the "myfilm" folder, but only upload to subfolder "TO_ACMEFILM".
We are assuming you perform this in your web browser as you would for example WeTransfer*:
- Logon to your FilmHUB, https://acmefilm.filmhub.cloud in this tutorial.
- On dashboard, click the create share shortcut or go to ADMIN>SHARES and click [ CREATE SHARE BENEATH 'STORAGE' ].
- Create folder "myfilm", select it and click [ NEXT ].
- Enter a name for share, in this tutorial we choose "myfilm". Click [ CREATE ], the share will be created and you will be redirected to the ACL editor - were you give user's access to share directories.
- On the left side current shared directories are listed, on the right side you are able to browse share and give users read (and write) permissions. Beneath User, choose Invite and enter "mia@acmefilm.com". Leave Write unchecked and click [ + ACCESS ]. Confirm to invite new user to FilmHUB, they will get an activation E-mail with instructions on how to finalise join.
- User now can read the folder "myfilm" @ storage. To give write access, first create the folder "TO_ACMEFILM" by clicking the create folder (folder with + sign) in upper right corner. Select the newly create "TO_ACMEFILM" folder.
- Beneath User, choose Select and select "mia@acmefilm.com" in the list, tick Write checkbox and finalise by clicking [ + ACCESS ].
The user now can read (download) files from storage/myfilm, and upload to storage/myfilm/TO_ACMEFILM.
Uploading a huge file package to the share
For smaller (<2GB) file packages, users can user the browser to upload and download files. In this example, we show how a newly invited user uploads a folder with 1TB of data using FilmHUB fast transfer desktop app:
- After user have been invited and activated their account (chosen password) the receive a join confirmation E-mail with links to desktop app.
- Follow the link to desktop app, login when necessary.
- Download the installer matching your operating system.
- Install and launch the desktop app.
- Drag-n-drop the large folder that should be uploaded on FilmHUB app.
- When it ask to autostart transfer, choose [ No I want to review].
- Instead of dropoff into home share, choose Browse and select "myfilm" share.
- Step into "TO_ACMEFILM" folder and finalise by clicking [ SUBMIT ].
Transfer will now start and can be tracked both through desktop app and by logging into https://acmefilm.filmhub.cloud.
For information on how to use the desktop app or the web application/portal, consider the FilmHUB user manual.
