MISSION AND VALUES
In Foreign English Mentorship Organization, or FEMO, our goal is to volunteer to help foreign students improve their conversational English through live calls. At the moment, we are working with high schools and colleges in Japan that believe this program will be a great help to their students. We have been working daily to pair up our members with the college students in Japan, based on their interests and topics they would like to talk about, in order to optimize this opportunity, even though it’s an educational experience. However, during calls, we are not only trying to converse about interests; members will also try to exchange cultural differences, and can even discuss political matters if the other student feels comfortable enough to do so!
We have done events with high schools and colleges during their class time, and plan on incorporating more events and activities to make this an enjoyable experience.
In the future, we hope to get more schools in Japan and perhaps in other countries, as well as expand the club to separate schools within the United States. We want to be able to help as many foreign students as possible, and make it a fun and educationally and culturally beneficial experience for anyone participating in this country and around the world!
FEMO was founded in 2019 by Takuto Kakeda, an incoming senior at Folsom High School. Starting off as a small school club, FEMO was able to expand into its own organization with national chapters and international partnerships by 2020. FEMO is now led and organized by a team of six head officers, all ranging between ages 16 to 18. FEMO continues to establish good foreign relations with their partners, expanding to more countries and even national chapters in the near future.
Takuto Kakeda, Emily Broughton, Nicole James, Christopher Yang, and Lorenzo Ciubal.
