Our Vision: A Maritime Design Inspired by the Navesink River
Flooring Upgrades
The old carpet will be replaced with durable, easy-to-maintain, natural wood-like, vinyl plank flooring. The new materials are more hygienic, allergy-friendly and easier to clean. An inviting, all-weather rug will be placed in the children’s area, offering a welcoming gathering space for Fair Haven’s little readers.
Ceiling, Lighting & Electrical
The Library will receive new ceiling tiles along with new electrical fixtures to enhance the overall ambiance and functionality of the space. Minor upgrades will provide more outlets and a safer environment.
Shelving & Opened Layout
The shelving design will allow for flexible space and an open layout reconfiguration to accommodate many different kinds of activities. The shelving in the middle of the room, blocking open pathways and space, will be changed to allow for better flow and maximize the tight confines we are in
Furniture
The central seating area will be upgraded with more comfortable chairs and a spacious seating arrangement. The children’s area will feature a better-designed space to maximize seating attendance during busy storytimes. The centerpiece of the children’s area will showcase a lighthouse (or similar design) with special shelving.
Circulation Desk
The new desk will improve both function and aesthetics, streamlining the checkout and book return process and making it easier for staff to assist patrons. It will include ample space for technology, lower counters for accessibility, space for library announcements/bulletins/sign-up to enhance the user experience. An L-shaped design also encloses the librarian work workspace in a better fashion
Computer Center
The current computer stations, which are poorly positioned and outdated, require the user to stand or sit on a stool. The center will be reconfigured and relocated on the wall directly across from the circulation desk. The workstations will be user-friendly and designed for modern technology and comfort.
