• To perform as a soloist and as part of a small ensemble.

• To be able to write your own music and develop your ideas into full compositions.

• To be able to analyse set works and unfamiliar pieces using music specific terminology

• The set works cover music from the following categories: Musical Forms & Devices, Music for Ensemble, Film Music, Popular Music

• Your instrument and your voice

• Performance (30%) -  Students perform for at least four minutes of music comprising of a solo performance and ensemble performance

• Composition (30%)  - Students compose two compositions, of at least three minutes’ combined duration. One composition to a set brief and one free composition.

• Listening & Appraising (40%) - The paper is made up of two sections and is out of a total of 80 marks. 

Section A covers the set Areas of study, dictation, and unfamiliar pieces (68 marks) Section B is an extended response comparison between a set work and one unfamiliar piece (12 marks)

Communication, teamwork, the ability to perform under pressure, planning and organisation, self-discipline, critical thinking and IT skills are all covered when learning music and these skills are transferable to any job.
