Level 2 State Testing
State law requires students in 3rd-8th grades to participate in standardized testing every school year. All students in 3rd-8th grades take standardized tests in math and English Language Arts. Due to scheduling changes, level 2 students will now begin state testing Monday, April 21st Instead of May 5th as previously communicated. Testing schedules vary and tests are not timed but tests expire 20 calendar days after they are begun. Students typically work on tests 45-60 minutes/day 3-4 days/week over the course of several weeks.
Under state law, parents have the right to opt students out of state testing. However, there are different rules regarding parents' opt-out rights depending on the test. For English Language Arts and Mathematics tests, parents need only submit THIS form. An opt-out request must be made using this form. Parents may opt students out of testing at any time, but, ideally, by the first Monday after Spring Break. Please contact director of school operations Karen Torry at k.torry@fgcschool.org or 503-359-4600 with any questions about state testing or parent opt-out rights.
