Why Is This a Priority?

Equity means offering individualized support to students to address possible barriers to learning, like poverty, transience, or trauma. Sustaining an equitable and rigorous educational system will help all students develop the knowledge and skills they need to be engaged and become productive members of society. More importantly, an equitable educational experience will result in better economic and social outcomes for all children.

Progress Update:

• PK-12 teachers identified and aligned major content standards to district text resources and embedded highly effective instructional strategies into classroom pratices (formative assessment practices, rigor, critical thinking).

• Continued focus on formative assessment strategy training for school leaders and teachers by providing professional development two specific opportunities: Student Agency in Learning (WestEd) and Seven Strategies of Assessment for Learning

• Reviewed and revised 22-23 curriculum maps to ensure all content areas are aligned to current standards-with a focus on major content in all subjects

• School leadership identified and implemented one or more aspects of district grading vision: progress, process, and/or product grading goals.

Development of student agency in learning:

• Created tools and opportunities during the regular school day for all PK-12 students to apply and evaluate their essential skill development

• Focused on student goal-setting, self-analysis of progress on learning targets and success criteria, and identifying specific next step strategies to meet success criteria.

• All educators in the district have identified specific protocols and procedures for the evaluation and reporting of essential skills development of students separately from academic performance.

Development of a district-wide system of instructional coaching

Progress Update:

• Ensured 1.0 FTE in each K-12 school in the district dedicated to instructional coaching and the implementation of highly effective instructional strategies

• Identified major instructional priorities across the district and provide necessary professional development for instructional coaches to ensure progress in district instructional goals.

• Implemented consistent, dedicated time for K-12 instructional coaches to collaborate on district instructional goals and grading changes.
