So this Page is separate from the company website in a sense! I figured the other pages are all the formal company information and everything pertaining to my new business, and information will continue to be posted to the primary pages on this site!
I felt the urge to create a page that has more information about myself, some of my challenges and experiences as a new business owner, the process of getting to this point, some insight of this business plan that I truly have a love and appreciation for, and my efforts toward making this business plan Grow and Succeed!! HOPEFULLY World Wide, but I can be content with Country Wide!
So I am a 25 year old male. Born in New Jersey, United States in June of 1995. I lived in NJ my whole life until the year of 2009 when I graduated from middle school, 8th grade, and was given the option by my parents to either start my high school education in New Jersey or go to Delaware and start in a state that was new to me. Prior to my middle school graduation, in June of 2006, I was diagnosed with a brain tumor. A brain surgery was performed a week before my 11th birthday. Due to the time frame of this life event, I was unable to enjoy the end of my 5th grade school year and was unable to attend my elementary school graduation as much as I begged my parents and doctors. The brain surgery was a success for the most part. However, they were unable to remove the full tumor as my doctor / surgeon informed my parents and myself that a portion of the tumor is near a very sensitive and therefore risky area of my brain. So for the rest of my life, I will have a remaining brain tumor. This information was a hard hit to my family as well as myself at that time. I have always wondered what effect this lifetime medical issue will have on my future. It took about a year or two of my life to get used to forever having a scar on my body in a location that can easily be seen by the public. Eventually, I grew to accept the comments and looks received by the public. Over time, I learned and figured some ways to partially disguise my scar. I was no longer ashamed of the scar. Instead, I began to see my scar as a symbol of a battle that I endured. Today, July 05, 2020, I have recently turned 25 years old and I have been healthy so far living with my tumor. I go through a yearly brain scan process to check the status of my tumor, and I keep living my life to the fullest extent as I see fit. Everyday that I am alive is a great day in my eyes!
So back to my choice in high school following my middle school graduation. I was given this option as my mother had been offered a job opportunity in the state of Maryland, and therefore was moving part time to the state of Delaware, as that was a middle ground for my family between New Jersey and Maryland. So I made the decision to move along with her and attend a new high school in a new state. I told myself I could either go to the same high school as my older siblings attended and continue my education with my current peers from middle school, OR I can expand my horizons and move and go to a brand new school in a new state. It was an adjustment for myself and my family as my residence in New Jersey was minutes away from stores, the shore and beach areas, which the beach is my favorite place to be in the world. Our new residence was in a town of Delaware that was very country, farms everywhere, only one hotel in the entire town, and nothing surrounding the town. The initial upside to the country environment for me was that I've always had an interest in horses and would like to own horses one day.
The town was just starting to be expanded in the years that I lived there part time for high school. I enjoyed the lifestyle I was living! I would attend school in the countryside during the week, and then spend the weekends at our New Jersey residence. So I attended all four years of high school in Delaware, graduated, and was attending my first semester of college in the state when my parents decided to move the family back to New Jersey full time. I was devastated when I heard the news. As I had fallen in love with the countryside lifestyle. The serenity, farms, large properties, nice people, more relaxed lifestyle, more affordable living, and just the overall peacefulness of being in the countryside. At this time, the town had also started building and expanding. Brand name stores were being built, a brand new hospital was built in town, a movie theater, and shopping plazas. I had seen the potential of the town and the growth occurring, and was very devastated to be leaving the town at a time that it is starting to significantly improve.
So during my teenage high school years, I had developed a huge interest in architecture and building as well as interior and exterior design of homes and buildings. Prior to that, I had already had an interest in mathematics and working with numbers and figures. To this day, I have always had the highest class scores in mathematics courses. In my high school years, I had a teacher that would plan their courses using my notes, which I found very shocking. During my time in college, my mathematics professor asked how I managed to maintain a 100% throughout the whole course. Simply put, I enjoy the subject. However, upon my family and I returning to New Jersey full time, I made a decision to place my college education on a brief hold.
As a young teenager, I had drilled in my head that I want to own a business, and then attend college after starting and owning a successful business. I have always had an interest in seeking other methods to reach and obtain what I view as success. I had always known that I wanted to one day own a business of my own and work with people in a fun and enjoyable environment where everyone is treated equally. Following my return to New Jersey after high school and one semester of college, I began working in finance. I have worked with multiple companies during my years of employment. From financial institutions, to car dealerships, to retail stores, and I was never fully satisfied with the employee treatment and / or respect by management and ownership levels of the businesses. I kept saying it will be better at my next employer. However, that never occurred. After continuously being one of the top performers and often the youngest employee in these positions and/or companies, but yet still seeing and experiencing the same unrealistic treatment within multiple companies to myself and other employees, it pushed me further each time into my own thoughts of, I must start my own business in order to have the employee treatment and happiness that I truly desire. I was raised to treat the Janitor with the same respect as the CEO.
I just had never found an exact type of business that I wanted to own. I have created and written multiple business ideas and plans, some good, bad, not affordable, and many other obstacles. It wasn't until the summer of 2019 that a plan crossed my mind, and it was the business plan I fully fell in love with and decided to create!
The name Ferrin came from a business project assigned to me during my middle school years. It was a school project to create business cards for our own business. At the time, I created the name for an automotive manufacturer brand and dealership as that was my favorite business idea as a kid due to my passion for automobiles. However, as I became older, I realized the amount of resources needed to create an automotive manufacturer brand and dealership, and after working in that industry for a few years, I learned that was not the industry for myself.
The idea that came to me in the summer of 2019 occurred when I was helping a family member. They had asked me to refinish a piece of furniture for them. They came to me with this request as they were aware that I had already refinished some of my own home furnishings for my own personal use, and it was something I truly enjoyed doing. So I accepted the request and refinished the piece of furniture for this family member. When the piece was finished and revealed to them, the reaction I received when the person saw the refinished stage of their item, that reaction is what helped me realize that I had found the type of business I would like to create! The joy and excitement that occurred from everyone that viewed the finished piece is the best reward for my efforts!
So this event that occurred the summer of 2019 motivated myself to plan and begin creating this brand new business plan! That same summer, August 2019, I found and leased my first warehouse location to operate a business from. The warehouse that I had leased seemed to fit all my needs at first. However, over a few months, I then came to realize the space would not suffice for my business needs. So I then moved the business to a new warehouse in February of 2020 with the intention to fully launch in March of 2020. I had found a new warehouse and performed some construction and upgrades to improve the warehouse to fully operate the following month of March 2020.
During the month of February 2020, there had been some news spreading of a new virus around the world known as COVID-19 or the Coronavirus. The virus had not been as large in my area of the United States yet at this point. So I continued to move forward with planning and building stages of my new business location. However, the following month of March 2020, my planned month to fully launch the new business and begin operation, the virus spread increased causing a pandemic crisis within the country. This event caused myself as well as other businesses to close, postpone, or stop operation. I decided to use the closure time period to continue planning and modifying my business plan to improve and promote as much of a safe and stable operation procedure as possible considering the current world conditions.
In May of 2020, I filed my business with the State of New Jersey.
I am now launching the business plan in Full Effect!!
This is my story so far to this point in my life!
The next chapter of my life is sharing Ferrin Commodities LLC with the world!
