Youth Mentorship

Research shows that when a student has at least three caring adults in his or her life, they build a store of positive assets that boost self-esteem and empower them to make good decisions. School District 544 has several programs that utilize volunteer mentors:

With your help and involvement, business/classroom partnerships are created for students in Kindergarten through 6th grade. As a participant in the Adopt-A-Class program, businesses can:

  • Explain their business to students
  • Invite students for a tour
  • Display work done by students
  • Provide a volunteer on a regular basis
  • Assist occasionally with special projects

The cost of the partnership is $100, which goes directly to the business/partner's assigned classroom.

Senior Mentor Program

This program matches high school senior students who want to make a difference in a child’s life to Kindergarten through 9th grade classrooms.

Make a Difference

This is a Youth Service learning program for 6th, 7th and 8th grade students who creatively serve our community. The youth take the lead in identifying needs and plan effective solutions, work with community members to put their plan in action, reflect upon their work and celebrate.
