Yasmine Eissa is an Assistant Professor and Associate Chair of the Economics Department at the Onsi Sawiris School of Business, the American University in Cairo (AUC). She is also a Research Associate at the Economic Research Forum (ERF), a former Research Fellow at the World Trade Organization Chairs Program, and a consultant at the German Institute of Development and Sustainability (IDOS), where she contributes to a trade for development project in the Middle East and North Africa region.
Specializing in international trade and development, her research focuses on global value chains, trade policy, and firm dynamics, with particular attention to how trade integration shapes innovation, labor market outcomes, and entrepreneurial activity in emerging economies. Her work is published in peer-reviewed journals on international trade and has been recognized at leading conferences, including the Ibn Khaldun Prize and the EMANES Best Paper Award. This year, she is the recipient of the World Academy of Sciences research visit fellowship, funded by the German Research Foundation, to conduct her research on Global Value Chains and Entrepreneurial Activity at the IDOS institute. Through several partnerships, she contributes to policy-relevant initiatives across the MENA region and Africa, translating research into actionable insights for practitioners and policymakers.
