The 30th World Outlook Conference 2023

From 8th to 10th June 2023, the Thünen Institute in Braunschweig hosted the "30th World Outlook Conference" with participants from nine countries and international organizations who presented and compared global and regional 10-year projections of agricultural markets.

An investigation was conducted to assess the socioeconomic and proximate determinants of child loss among mothers residing in urban and rural areas of Egypt. The study uncovered distressing outcomes regarding the beneficial influence of breastfeeding and birth spacing on child well-being, regardless of the household's location. The results highlighted the significance of offering health insurance coverage to women residing in rural regions. Moreover, compelling evidence was found regarding the enhanced sanitation facilities in rural areas.

Trade 4 Sustainable Development Trade4SD 2022-2023

In June 2021, the Horizon 2020 project Trade4SD started. Trade4SD fosters the positive effects of trade in achieving the UN Sustainable development goals. The team from Thünen Institute, together with 13 partners from Europe, Africa, and Asia are developing a new and robust sustainability toolbox integrating partial and general equilibrium models with sustainable development indicators. It especially involves the stakeholder’s opinions from the EU, Ghana, and Vietnam to feed into the analysis. All of that will foster the policy recommendations for improving the sustainability impacts of trade policies. Furthermore, it will create new opportunities for agents in the agri-food value chains around the globe.

Social Entrepreneurship in Egypt and Facilitating Re-Cycling of Solid Wastes and Conversion of Organic Materials into a Source of Energy

The article reviews a number of different approaches and recommendations for facilitating the recycling of waste through five consecutive steps. This idea will have different impacts in respect of improving the behavioral patterns of people, alleviating environmental burdens, and helping in solving the problem of energy and waste as related to infrastructure. The idea of the project is designed on a small scale in one of the neighborhoods in Giza Governorate. To note, Egypt is suffering from the blight of waste and is in urgent need of recycling. It is known that social entrepreneurship often succeeds in solving crises and problems that governments and institutions fail to address. Overall, entrepreneurship and startups in Egypt are currently suffering from severe stagnation. Perhaps, the proposed project may solve the blight of waste and issues of entrepreneurship through some proposed recommendations that should be implemented through a number of steps that can be summed up in full cooperation between government entities and decision-makers on one hand with social entrepreneurs on the other hand. This article puts forward a process of actions geared to help solve the chronic issues faced by Egyptian society, which will have a positive impact on citizens, the private and public sectors as well as entrepreneurs.
