Benchmark Components

Unit Videos - Unit Videos introduce the unit and pose the Essentail Question for the Unit theme.

Big Books - Week 1 will include Mentor Read-Alouds, which consist of short reads that correspond to unit topics and are used to demonstrate meaning-making in complex texts.

Weeks 2 and 3 will include an Extended Read, which builds listening comprehension of complex text.

Daily writing tasks connect directly to these texts, which provide meaningful and engaging ways for students to write short narrative, informative, and opinion texts in response to the readings.

Poetry Poster - The Poetry Poster is part of the Phonics and Word Study used for hands-on phonics instruction. Students are able to identify words that begin with the focused sound.

Decodable Text - Decodable readers and passages provide opportunities to apply phonics (decoding and encoding) and foundational skills in context. Students should be able to decode and independently read these books.

Leveled Readers - Differentiated leveled texts are included in each unit of Benchmark Advance. Every leveled text within a unit corresponds to the unit topic so that all students, regardless of reading level, can practice close reading together in small groups.

HeidiSongs - The HeidiSongs™ videos support foundational skills instruction. Use these engaging videos to teach letters, sounds, colors, shapes, and high-frequency words.

Interactive Learning Games - These interactive learning games are assignable and provide independent phonics practice and reinforcement opportunities.
