The Research Group studies systems for energy conversion from both traditional sources (fossil fuels and nuclear energy) and renewable sources (solar, wind, hydro and marine energy, alternative sustainable fuels), as well as engine systems, thermal power plants, refrigeration and heat pump systems, systems and processes in smart grids, components and systems for fluid power transmission, and various direct energy conversion systems.

The scientific and educational activities related to energy systems and their components address thermodynamic, fluid dynamic, technological, safety, and environmental issues, as well as technologies aimed at their mitigation.

These aspects are also studied in relation to energy planning at different scales and the sustainability of energy processes, systems, and components throughout their life cycle.
