New Personal Project Policy
10/29/19Hello Feirstein Community,
As many of you know, we have a "personal project" option at Feirstein where you can put in a proposal for access to a wide range of our shooting equipment outside of classes. As the population of our school continues to grow, we will need to put some limitations to use of equipment for these projects in August of 2020, at the beginning of the next academic year, and we wanted to let folks know earlier rather than later.
We still deeply believe that film students should be shooting all the time, within and outside class. We will continue to support access to the "small production equipment package" spelled out below. This package is available on a first come, first serve basis with no “application” required. While you will need to fill out a Production Registration Form (PRF), that isn't an application: it's just information to share with the staff so that things can be properly coordinated.
If you want to make projects on a more substantial package like the RED package, you can do so through courses that make use of that kind of gear, including "Cinematography 1 for Non-majors,” “Portfolio Development," and “Directing Commercials," and we will always continue to offer electives that provide access to working with more sophisticated gear.
Amazing projects that have launched careers have been shot on the C100 and we feel that this is the right platform for personal projects, which should ideally focus on developing storytelling skills and having the freedom to experiment.
More details on personal projects is below.
Thanks for understanding, and I hope those of you hoping to do personal projects with other gear will put in your applications in time to try to get in for next summer!
Charles Haine, Interim Executive Director
