English Language Arts (ELA)

Benchmark Advance &

SIPPS (Systematic Instruction in Phonological Awareness)

Benchmark Advance is based on Common Core standards and puts a greater emphasis on comprehension and high level thinking skills. Through Benchmark Advance (BA), we will be working on reading and responding to texts, comprehension strategies, and vocabulary skills. Each week we will be working on a different phonics skill, spelling rule, and set of high-frequency words (HFW)/sight words. There are 10 units that follow a 3 week pattern.

SIPPS is targeted instruction in phonics, phonological awareness, sight words, and reading fluency. We use SIPPS to differentiate our reading instruction.
