My name is Kelly Baquero and this will be my 27th year in the district. My first 10 years were spent teaching 8th grade US History and I have been at Vista since 2008 teaching both regular and AP US History. My love for American history grew from some amazing college courses and the four years I lived in Richmond, Virginia in the 1990s.
I grew up in Folsom, attending Theodore Judah, Blanche Sprentz, Folsom Junior High (as it was called then) and Folsom High School. Back in those days you attended Theodore Judah K-4 and Blanche Sprentz 5-6 - those were the only elementary schools in Folsom at the time! In high school I worked at Patsy's Soda Parlor on Sutter Street - anyone who has been around a long time will remember it!
I graduated from UC Berkeley with a major in Social Science and a minor in Education. I earned my teaching credential and Master's degree from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). In 2012 I received my National Board Certification and in 2022 I earned my recertification for National Board.
My husband Victor and I have been married for 30 years. We have two sons - both of whom were my students at Vista! Daniel is 26, a UCLA grad and a medical school student. Andrew is 22, a recent Georgetown University graduate and works in finance.
Sophie is my 15 year old rescue Dachshund. She is a cuddly love bug and a sworn enemy of all who deliver Amazon packages.
Phoebe is my little dachshund - she was born Valentine's Day 2022. She is precious, rambunctious, and master irritator of Sophie. She provides the family with what we affectionately call "nasal lavage."
