Composition in Art

Composition is the term used to describe the arrangement of the visual elements in an artwork.  Simply, it is how the artist uses the Elements of Art (the essential ingredients) and the Principles of Design (how the ingredients are combined) to create artwork.  These same components are used by the viewer to help break down the artwork being viewed.
