Márcia Vieira is a PhD student of the Department of Conservation and Restoration at FCT NOVA and LAQV-REQUIMTE R&D unit. She has a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Conservation and Restoration with a specialization in Conservation Science, for the study of Medieval illuminated manuscripts. Her research has focused on the study of the materiality of colors applied in Medieval illuminations, with a special focus on the development of historically accurate reconstructions of brazilwood lake pigments and paint formulations. In 2019, she won a scholarship in the National Project STEMMA, for the research into the brazilwood pinks of the Ajuda Songbook, one of the few examples of Galician-Portuguese lyric. Her PhD project encompassed the first material study of the scriptorium of Alfonso X, including the Songs of Holy Mary (Cantigas de Santa Maria), a Spanish National Heritage. This research resulted in a collaboration with the Centro Conservazione e Restauro La Venaria Reale, focusing on the use of portable Raman spectroscopy for the characterization of medieval color palettes.
