Alfonso Alejo Armijo

Alfonso Alejo completed his degree in Chemistry in 2011 at University of Jaén (UJA, Spain), and his Ph.D. in Science in 2016 in the Inorganic and Organic Chemistry department at UJA, particularly in synthesis, isolation and characterization of natural products with antimicrobial and antioxidant properties. In 2018, he was awarded an Individual Post-doctoral Fellowship from “Fundación Alfonso Martín Escudero” to perform studies in polymeric systems for selective drug delivery into hepatocytes and also in flavylium salts synthesis and characterization at the "Cultural Heritage And Responsive Materials" group (CHARM) at FCT-NOVA under the supervision of Prof. Pina and Prof. Parola. In 2021 he returned to UJA as PI of a two-year FEDER project developing polymeric micelles nanocarriers. When his project finished, he has joined to Pharmaceutical Science Department of Universidad de Salamanca (USAL, Spain) as professor, where he is involved in the synthesis, isolation and characterization of natural products with antileishmanial and antimalarial properties.
