Class overview

Picture this: A safe-haven where stress, struggles, and every day baggage are checked at the door. A classroom that radiates warmth and acceptance, where every syllable of Shakespeare's iambic pentameter is not only understood but recited with passion, and where poetry evokes a sense of belonging as emotion and unity encompasses the room. An environment where words (written and spoken) are explored and studied for the power they carry in a myriad of works, and where students discover their responsibility for using them correctly and wisely in discussion, public speaking, and writing.

Picture a semester where students are challenged to think and to explain. To always question "why" and to never settle for any explanation (including theirs) that is lacking. Where students are required to be tolerant of opinions, requested to question their own, and mandated to think outside of the box. A semester where hard work is non-negotiable, where material is always connected to the "real world," where half the effort produces half the results, consequences for actions are taught, an appreciation for English and Literature is illuminated, a teacher passionate about her subject is observed, and where the last day of the semester generates the saddest goodbye.

Welcome to English II

About Mrs. Green

"The best teachers are those who show you where to look, but don't tell you what to see."

-Alexandra K. Trenfor

Hello there! My name is Jessica Green. I am so excited to be at FCHS for my 6th year of teaching! I graduated from FCHS in 2009 and then joined the US Air Force as a Medical Laboratory Technician. Though I loved being in the military (and miss it every day), I discovered my true passion and calling is teaching. So after 6 wonderful years of service, I left the military to pursue teaching. My wonderful husband of 13 years, David, and I came home and I started school at MTSU. My first year teaching was at Blackman Middle School in Murfreesboro (I taught 7th and 8th grade and was the Archery coach), then the next year I taught 8th grade at Coffee County Middle School. I've always wanted to teach at FCHS and I'm so excited to finally be teaching in my hometown and at my alma mater. I didn't truly appreciate our amazing town until I left, traveled the world, and came back, and I'm so excited to share my story with your child this year to help inspire them to be the best version of themselves and to follow their dreams. Thanks for allowing me to do that!

I love to be outside with my two dogs, Nollie (RIP April 2023) and Bear (Rottweiler/Jack Russell) or curled up inside with a book and my two kitties, Gryffin (RIP March 2023) and McKinley. I like to kayak and fish the beautiful lakes in Sewanee and rock crawl in either the four-wheeler or our 1983 Toyota, aka "The Yeti."  If I'm not on the lake or in the woods, I'm outside riding with my husband on our Harley or shooting my bow or maybe my shotgun (I do love those clay birds!).
