¡Bienvenidos!

Bienvenidos a la clase de español. We have an amazing year ahead of us! We will be exploring different traditions, values and lifestyles of the diverse Hispanic world. Students will be exposed to a variety of materials to help them achieve valuable skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing Spanish. I aspire to share my enthusiasm for languages and cultures to motivate students to develop proficiency using Spanish in order to better engage in the world around them.

In order to facilitate proficiency, the class will be conducted mainly in Spanish and students are expected to be active listeners and participants. Students will be making a lot of mistakes when using the language, but making mistakes is part of learning a language! Even the most fluent speakers make mistakes. Language is acquired through comprehensible input, that is my role, and lots of practice, that is the students' role. Using newly acquired language at home with family and friends will be an essential catalyst on students' path to proficiency.

I am excited to introduce a deskless classroom this year. The absence of desks helps students engage in class to become more active learners while using the language, rather than passive note-takers. It is an exciting pedagogical shift, and if you would like to know more about it, please open this link.

Cariñosamente,
