Auditions are held months prior to the performances (dates coming soon). They are held after school either in room 170 or in the auditorium depending on the type of audition (vocal and dance or dialogue).
In order to participate in a show as an actor or actress one must audition for the show. Auditions are done differently for the Fall play and Spring musical.

Plays are performances that generally only include dialogue, no singing or dancing. Auditionees will be expected to show up on time and read a small portion of the script. Script material is provided by the director.
Musicals in the Spring have acting, singing and dancing. Auditionees are expected to have 32 bars (about a minute) of a song from a published musical prepared to sing. This can be performed a cappella (without music) or with a karaoke track provided by the auditionee. A second day of auditions will take place for dancing. Actors will be taught a short dance that they will perform in groups. Auditionees must wear practical dancing shoes, jazz shoes recommended. If the musical has dialogue, it will be the same process as reading for plays.
When an actor or actress begins an audition, they give the director a slate. This gives the director all the necessary information they need before the audition begins.
At WHS, slates are given before a vocal audition. When an auditionee is called up to begin, they state their name and what song they will be performing. Here's an example:
Hi, my name is [first & last name], and I will be performing "Watch What Happens" from Newsies
