Inspire Lead Make a Difference
Do you love to learn? Are you excited about sparking that same interest in students? Consider joining the Teacher Academy of Maryland (TAM) to deepen your understanding of teaching and how best to support your future students!
What is TAM? Why Will it benefit me?
During the first year of the TAM program, students complete three courses: Teaching as a Profession, Human Growth and Development, and Foundations of Curriculum and Instruction. Students also begin compiling their portfolio and complete it during the internship. Students are consistently engaged in identifying, analyzing, and practicing the fundamentals of effective teaching and classroom management, among many other areas of concentration, including cultural proficiency. This knowledge accumulates over the course of the program so a strong foundation of a career is already begun.
Students from all ten schools come to the Career and Technology center to learn together as a cohort. This is a fantastic opportunity to meet and learn alongside students from different schools who all have the same goals that you do!
Students in grades 10-12 are eligible for joining TAM. This is a fantastic program for those who wish to pursue a 4 year degree in education, allowing students to deepen their understanding of the profession before pursuing their 4 year degree at an accredited university.
Students enrolled in the courses, Teaching as a Profession – G/T CT-925-1-CC and Human Growth and Development - G/T CT-922-CC, are eligible to be dually enrolled in the three-credit college course at FCC. Due to the advanced course requirement, students who are preparing for a career in Early Childhood, Elementary or Secondary Teaching, who earn grades of B or higher in all four required Academy courses, may earn college credits from Bowie State University, Coppin State University, Frostburg State University, Hood College, Morgan State University, Salisbury University, St. Mary’s College of Maryland, Stevenson University, or Towson University.
