Since the fall of 1978, the students of the Construction Technology Department have built or renovated a residential house project every year. In the photos below you can see every house that they have completed. You may find it interesting to see the evolution of the housing market in Frederick County both in style and price.

The first house project which was completed in the spring of 1979 was located in Amber Meadows and sold for $58,236. To ensure an ongoing funding source to allow the students the opportunity to work in a realistic construction project the Frederick County Construction Trades Foundation, Inc. (FCSCTF, Inc.) was organized in the fall of 1978. The foundation is comprised of a variety of community members who are associated with the building industry and have a desire to support the education of students in construction related fields. The foundation utilizes the profits from the sale of the houses to support equipment and material needs in the construction department of the Career and Technology Center, provide scholarships to students throughout the Career and Technology Center who are attending college or technical school, assist with the travel costs for students who qualify to represent Maryland at the National SkillsUSA Competition, and school requests that benefit the Career and Technology Center.

From the development of the plans to the final landscaping, with all of the carpentry, electrical, plumbing and HVAC work in between, the house projects are truly a First Class example of the accomplishments of the Construction Technology student and staff working within the community.
