Agricultural & Commercial Metals
This two year program at the Career and Technology Center, introduces students to a wide range of opportunities in the construction and manufacturing industries. The program is open to 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students who are interested in learning many of the skills required in the field of welding and metal working, including foundational skills in Gas Metal Arc Welding, Shielded Metal Arc Welding, Gas Tungsten Arc Welding, and Flux-Cored Arc Welding, as well as Oxyacetylene cutting, welding, brazing, Plasma Arc Cutting, blueprint reading, welding symbols, work ethic and safety. Extensive instruction is given in the appropriate and safe use of numerous power tools and their applications in the field. Students explore career opportunities and specializations within the welding industry such as Pipe Welders/Pipefitters, Tube Welders/Boilermakers, Structural Welders/Ironworkers, Aerospace/Precision TIG, Millwrights and Certified Welding Inspectors(CWI). Student skills competition and leadership development is provided through participation in the SkillsUSA and FFA student organizations at the local, regional, state, and national levels. Competitions include: Individual Welding, Welding Fabrication(3 person team), Metal Sculpture, and FFA Agricultural Mechanics(4 person team).
