Curriculum

This two year program at the Career and Technology Center, introduces students to a wide range of opportunities in the construction and manufacturing  industries. The Welding program is open to 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students who are interested in learning many of the skills required in the field of welding and metal working, including foundational skills in Gas metal arc welding, Shielded metal arc welding, Gas tungsten arc welding, and Flux-cored arc welding, as well as Oxyacetylene cutting, welding, brazing, Plasma arc cutting, blueprint reading, welding symbols, work ethic and safety. Extensive instruction is given in the appropriate and safe use of numerous power tools and their applications in the field. Students explore career opportunities and specializations within the welding industry such as Steamfitter/Pipefitter, Boilermaker, Ironworker, Millwright and Certified Welding Inspectors. Student skills competition and leadership development is provided through participation in the SkillsUSA student organization at the local, state and national levels. Students can also choose to join FFA and compete in Agricultural Mechanics competitions.
