Cosmetology 1

FCPS Career and Technology Center

Welcome to the Career and Technology Center Cosmetology Program. The primary purpose of the Cosmetology Program is to train the learner in the basic manipulative skills, safety judgments, proper work habits, and desirable attitudes necessary to obtain licensure and for competency in entry level positions in cosmetology or a related career field. The course is curriculum and competency based; through theory and technically based instruction. We will focus on goals, objectives, and strategies to prepare students for a successful career in Cosmetology.

Year 1 students develop their basic knowledge of hair, skin, and nail care in a classroom setting while working on mannequins and class members. Excellent attendance is essential in order to attain the 1,500 hours necessary to qualify to sit for the Maryland State Board Of Cosmetology exam at the end of year two. This is an exceptional opportunity for students to get a head start on their career dreams and goals.
