MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL

Dear Cougar Community,

The weather would indicate that we are oscillating between two seasons; the athletic calendar gives the same message. We are have enjoyed cheering on our Winter Sports teams, some of whom are still in competition. It was especially exciting to cheer on our Boys’ Indoor Track Team who brought home a state championship – Go Cougars! March 1 marks the beginning of Spring sports and we are looking forward to supporting all of those student-athletes as they represent Catoctin High School on the field/track. Part of what makes me most proud of our athletics program is the teamwork and school pride that is demonstrated by our teams every day – even in the sports that include individual events, the successful teams win championships (or achieve other measures of success) through strong teamwork. That is also what makes our greater school successful – teamwork that includes support and respect for every student and a collective effort to help every student succeed and feel welcome. As we have recently transitioned to some new practices (namely the opportunity for every student/family to make their own choice regarding face coverings), it is as important as ever that we remain committed to respect for every student. I am confident that our entire community (staff, parents, students, community members) will respect the choice that each other makes in regards to face coverings and that we will continue to foster an environment that supports the learning and well-being of every student.

This time of year also marks the mid-point of Term 3. As I have said in previous messages, it is a great time for parents/guardians to ask your student to reflect on their successes and their areas for improvement thus far this term. If your child is struggling in any class, please reach out to his/her teacher for insights about ways to improve and to support his/her success. Please also feel free to reach out to your student’s counselor or administrator if there are any concerns with which they can help. As with athletics, teamwork is the key to success in the classroom; students, parents/guardians, and school staff should collaborate and communicate to support student success and well-being. Please reach out if there are opportunities for us to foster greater teamwork.

Go Cougars!
