UNIT OVERVIEW
In this unit, you will explore the impact humans have on biodiversity by researching a real world environmental issue, connecting with an environmental organization, and sharing potential solutions for the issue through a public service announcement.
First Step
Before you dive into the lessons below, watch the World Population video on the left.
Each lesson builds on the previous lesson. Follow the lessons in chronological order starting with Lesson 1: HIPCOO. Each page will guide you through the lesson requirements. In order to move on, you must complete a mastery check at the end of each lesson.
Project History
The Environmental Literacy Project has gone through several variations. In previous years, students produced five-minute films in which they highlighted their research on an environmental issue, explained the human impact on biodiversity, and proposed potential solutions to help solve or positively impact the issue. However, last year students made Public Service Announcements (PSAs) instead.
Here are some examples from last year:
Spring 2021
Chesapeake Bay - Air Pollution
Loss of Honeybees
Appalacian Trail Conservation
Deforestation - Forest Preservation
Spring 2019
Loss of Honeybees
Deforestation
Overharvesting
Ocean Plastic Pollution
