Auditorium Fundraiser

TJ High School is home to a thriving arts community which includes many wonderful performing arts programs like the TJ Band, the Academy for the Fine Arts, TJ Stage, TJ Dance, TJ Orchestra, and many more.  We are proud of the growth in all of our programs and the impact high school arts plays in the lives of each student. 

We are looking for support to update our auditorium space.  TJ’s auditorium is the largest auditorium in FCPS and is also one of the largest venues in Frederick county. It is regularly used for not just TJ events, but FCPS and Frederick community events such as All-County concerts, Martin Luther King Jr.  Celebration, and many more. The current state of our auditorium does not allow for high quality experiences and performances for our audience and performers. To meet the needs of our school based and county/community events, we are looking to upgrade our space in several areas:

• Seating: 40% of our seats are damaged or unusable which limits the size of audience and accessibility of our venue. 

• Lighting: Our light fixtures are old, cannot adequately light the stage, and will be obsolete as LED fixtures have overtaken the lighting market and incandescents are being phased out.  LED lights will save on energy costs and provide more creative options for various staging needs of our productions. 

• Sound: The speakers and wiring need updated and repositioned to match the size of the space.  Current speaker configuration does not adequately support the size of the space and leads to frequent microphone feedback.  Our wireless mic system and sound board also need to be updated to meet the needs of large scale productions. 

• Visual: We do not have projectors adequate for the size of the space.  We are looking to purchase two projectors to mount under our balcony spaces so that visuals can be seen from any seat and can be controlled from the stage or tech booth.  

The total cost for this project is over $400,000.  We are hoping the combined support of FCPS, Community Donors, and the general public can help us phase in these improvements over a few years.
